All these people on here saying you're too young for cirrhosis or you're not drinking enough to develop cirrhosis are misinformed. There is a genetic component to cirrhosis related to alcohol so unless one is tested for that risk, any statement of safety or low risk is bogus

If you’re really taking 4 days off per week you’re not hitting it hard enough to go straight from “healthy” to “cirrhosis” at that age. There are steps in between…a lot of them.

Cirrhosis is when your liver is so damaged it can’t recover. Your liver is going to be “fatty” for quite a while before that happens.

There is a chance that what you reported in this thread is lying to yourself and us, and you’re really pounding the bottle everyday and you’re closer to 200 units/week…in which case yeah, things can go south quick.

No reason to be dishonest. I drink 40-50 drinks a week in a 3 day span. Dont touch the hard stuff except for every few weeks I’ll drink a couple of whiskey cokes.

People need to stop focusing on alcohol (yes he needs to slow down/stop) and his age. Alcohol is only part of the equation.

The liver can be overloaded many ways. Fructose/sugar/HFCS, medication, environmental exposure to certain chemicals etc. If the OP has a contributing factor/factors his age is no obstacle. He may have been over doing acetaminophen, exposed to chemicals at work and downing Big Gulps on top of the alcohol use. In addition, his genetics could leave him susceptible to liver disease.

With the shitty American diet and low food quality there are children with fatty liver disease. There have been cases of infants developing fatty livers from all of the HFCS in baby formula.

OP has had a wake up call and needs to consult his Dr. and run the tests to see where he stands. This is a great opportunity to reevaluate his health and lifestyle in general.

I go through phases. Sometimes I grab a case of Michelob, sometimes I grab a case of Coors. I used to drink Busch and Natty when I was a little younger.

For liquor, I typically will reach for vodka when I do drink liquor. Every now and then I’ll drink some Blantons or Four Roses. But liquor isn’t my go to.

The top 10% of drinkers drink over 10 drinks a day so I think you’re ok re: cirrhosis

It depends on genetics

But in general the people that drink themselves to death are drinking at least a pint of hard liquor a day for a couple decades

Most are drinking a fifth a day

Regardless of your diagnosis, you’ve got to chill out.

That average of a a weekend is really high, like insanely high.

Maybe start out by limiting yourself to 6 beers a day on Friday, Sat, Sunday. Then cut that down to 4 per day of those three days.

If you can do that then you need AA.

Yooo I was 27 when I got diagnosed with cirrhosis. I felt like shite for weeks before I woke up with jaundice one day. I was drinking a liter of whiskey a day to not have seizures and more if I wanted to actually get drunk (which was all the time). I hope you don’t have it! If you do, it is actually possible to recover like I did in part due to being so young. You will probably have alcoholic fatty liver if I had to guess, but that too you can recover from. The main thing is to stop drinking. I needed 7 months in rehab for quitting. Another thing is to change your diet. I’ve been doing mostly keto for a few years now. At this point I see a gastroenterologist twice a year for ultrasound/blood work. This last time I went about a month ago, I was more or less told “We don’t want to just reverse such a serious diagnosis as cirrhosis, especially since it isn’t normally something that goes away, but your ultrasound doesn’t show any cirrhosis at this point so…” yeah. My official medical record list me as having active cirrhosis, but off the record my doc says my liver healed completely. I’m grateful to God for my health and that I didn’t need a transplant and to still be alive at all really. Good luck to you man, if I can come back from that then I know you can make it.

2 drinks/day for men is considered “safe”

That’s 14 per week

Your liver is one of the most important organs you have, it controls more than anyone would ever imagine. Stop drinking and watch your life improve dramatically.
