that track is very unfit.

Indy car raced one year there and said "frick that"

Are you implying Indy had no idea of the track conditions prior to the actual race there? Like they booked the race at the track, just showed up, ran the race and then said frick that?

The stupid level on this site knows no bounds.

That says all you need is a regular seat belt

If that's all he had, then that could explain the body condition. Once the car started to roll, the belt locked tight, and the centrifugal force made the belt cut into him (crossover belt into his neck, lap belt into his gut). Just a theory.

Sad to hear regardless.

He had a harness and a 4 point roll bar.

Indy didn't come back because of a money dispute. They were on the initial calendar for year 2, but the parties had resorted to lawsuits so the stop was called off.

Think it was also FQF weekend for the first race.

Oh well. 216 mph with a chute failure is brutal.

Prayers sent for his family.

I have no idea what the real story behind all this was but I wonder what kind of tires he was running. I feel like he was probably running stock tires that were probably cold, and that coupled with his inexperience in both driving ability and mechanical know-how led to his death.

Had he been running Pilot Cup 2's or something along those lines he would have been in a much safer position.

Also, I think the Sheriff is talking out of his arse a bit here. The GTR has a top speed of 196 and achieving speeds like that as an amateur is basically impossible, especially at a track day when there were probably numerous other cars on the track at the same time. My guess is that he didn't break 150.

Highly modified car and the guy was somewhat of an amateur.

Not sure on tires, but they were probably legitimate race tires.

This was not a road course event. They were using a modified version of the front straight for a 1/2 mile drag strip, essentially. The car was purpose built and had parachutes that failed to deploy.

Better picture of the car. Allegedly 2000hp.

And here's a video of him and his other car. He was a good ol baw.

LINK

Reading up on his cars it appeared they only had a partial roll cage. He was still using the doors as if it was a "street" car.

A four point isn't doing shite for you at those speeds. Car should have been fully caged with a head restraint equipped racing seat and the driver should have a HANS.

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was a drag event. I thought it was a track day.
