A North Carolina man driving more than 200 mph was killed when his vehicle crashed during a race Saturday morning (Sept. 22) at NOLA Motorsports Park. The fatality was reported at about 9:20 a.m., said Glen T. Boyd, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. The man was competing in an event that was open to the public, with drivers taking turns trying to establish the fastest time. Only one vehicle at a time is on the track during these "controlled runs." Upon exceeding 200 mph, the man's vehicle spun out of control and crashed. No fire was reported, and no one else was injured, Boyd said.

Damn that sucks. What could go wrong with a bunch of amateurs blasting their way down a racetrack with nothing more than a coffee and donuts pre-meeting.

The event was open to anything. Had a friend bringing his CTS-V out and he had been on me to bring my car.

Pretty sure that when you choose to drive a car going 200 mph, you sign an "at your own risk" waiver.

It was a car capable of going 200mph within a half mile. My money is on a modified GTR.

It wasn't from a dead stop. Had the option of rolling start.

I don’t know if I buy the 200 mph part.
I’ve never seen them run the track configuration that runs the full straight, and on the normal configuration, you ain’t hitting 200 mph.
Sucks to hear, but any time you roll onto the track you know you are taking this risk. Hope no lawsuits result - that’s one of my pet peeves, when families of those who die on any type of track end up filing suit.

ETA: Just saw that this was the 1/2 mile event, not a roadracing type of thing.
