Those ripples in the track look scary. It’s hard as hell to slow those cars in the space provided. They need to go back to runways, like most others. Higher level of inspections required. RIP to a man living life to the fullest.

That’s the case with motorcycles - Tires are a lot softer and they would be chewed to shite after 1 track day. 3 track days was the most I could squeeze out of a set of new tires. But with cars, I couldn’t notice anything after multiple sessions. He had to be starting out with some pretty ratchet tires. NOLA is a damn fine track for roadracing. Don’t like that area being used for 1/2 mile or drag runs though.

I spoke with the EMT’s and responding police officer that were out there today, and they said no roll cage and no safety harness. Driver was decapitated with his head in the helmet about 50yards away from the car, one of his hands were cut off and laying in the roadway and his stomach exploded with everything hanging out. They said it was not pretty.

I don’t think these are armatures- they do have some training that they need to go through. Helmets, racing gear, track insurance etc.

This right here is exactly why responsible tracks and events require you to have all of those things, a firesuit, arm restraints, etc. once your car breaks a certain speed. It's a motorsport, and you can't eliminate all injuries and deaths, but proper safety equipment DRASTICALLY increases the chances of a good outcome when things get hairy.

It's a bad look when parts of the driver are left behind on the track for the next one to pick up on his pass.

As these events become more mainstream, the safety requirements must be stepped up. How is a car that powerful allowed to run with no cage? Even grassroots drag racing has standards based on the time you run. An experienced racer has seen enough crazy shite happen to want a cage around them.

Less than 10sec cars, drivers must have a NHRA license. Less than 11sec requires a roll-cage at most tracks.

200mph 1/2mi car is a sub 9sec 1/4 mi car.

Not at all. The guy I know was a few back in line waiting to go. Helmets were required, track rules I assume.

Rumor has it that they weren’t doing safety checks today

Yeah that's absolutely terrible decision making. Without that level of safety there is no chance of ever surviving a crash at 200 MPH.

I don't know how a GTR with probably 100K in mods alone and 1500+ hp doesn't have a roll-cage.

It wouldn't even be allowed to run at any 1/4mi tracks.

Yeah, when I asked all I needed was a helmet. Think the way it was written is I could sign off on all the precheck stuff. Not sure if there was a staff rep actually doing inspections.

It was a pretty stupid move. Hopefully people learn from it.

I've been 150 plenty of times in street cars, and have the understanding that if I wreck, there's a high likelihood I'm a gonner. I don't expect any car to protect me going faster than 120
