Nax News
In one of many largest drug busts in U.S. historical past, federal authorities in Philadelphia seized practically 20 tons of cocaine—worth about $1 billion— last month from a ship owned by JP Morgan’s asset management arm.
Although the ship, named MSC Gayane, is operated by Switzerland-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), it was financed by a transportation strategy fund run by JP Morgan’s asset management arm.
A statement by the US Justice Department said six crew members aboard the ship have been arrested and charged with knowingly and intentionally conspiring to possess more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Details have also emerged showing that the ship is leased out to MSC.
According to online vessel tracking website MarineTraffic, the ship was flying under the flag of Liberia, a country in West Africa.
JP Morgan has declined comment on the development since details emerged it owned the ship Thursday.
According to ABC News, so far, at least six crew members from Serbia and Samoa have been charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine aboard a ship. The ship’s second mate reportedly told investigators that he had been promised $50,000 for handling the cargo.

It’s standard to let one get caught. So 40 tons made it trough. But seriously how big does an organization need to be to handle that much coke. Top guy distributes 10,000 pounds to 5 different groups?

20 tons is actually 40K pounds
Which makes your question even more ridiculous once you adjust the math

Drug money that is properly laundered is the fuel that keeps most major US and World banks afloat.

Pretty much all of them do, just as pretty much all US corporations are chartered in Delaware. Cheap and easy regulations.

I was curious so I googled ‘Liberian flag’.
I immediately received a notification that my search patterns are suspicious and was shown a blocked picture of streetlights and prompted to select the blocks containing them to prove I was not a robot.

Liberia is a flag of convenience state. The biggest of which is Panama. The vast majority of ships registered under flags of convenience are actually owned by entities from other countries.
