Are there e-sport scholarships to serious schools?

I suppose that depends on what you consider a "serious school" if you mean Ivy League then no.

UC Irvine (if you are looking at academics they are similar to UNC and in the top 35)

Some others:

Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Boise State
Miami University

Also, the players don't always sit alone there are team sports and not always played from remote locations.

While it does put them inside vs outside playing sports it really isn't any different than kids of my generation that spent all day reading books. It would be about balance just as with a kid that played baseball.

than sitting alone in a dark room for hours and hours. Not to mention the benefit of building a habit of physical exercise for life.

Most esport tournaments are played at various locations with many being team based. Also a lot of the professional players are in relatively good shape to great shape

why would he be any less social spending time training as someone in the gym doing the same thing for any other sport?

On Saturday ask your kid to play fortnight like it's a job. Eight hours, breaks and lunch in-between. Have him do it again Sunday and see if he's better than he was the day before.

Next Saturday ask him to lift weights, run, and throw a football for the same amount of time. Have him do it again Sunday and see if he can still manage a jog.

Granted, things like mics and twitch can allow you to be social as you play a game, but there an overwhelmingly larger time commitment to esports than traditional sports at the highest level.

For anyone interested, there's a CSGO tournament on right now. The Starladder Berlin Minor. This is a play-in to get into the bigger tournament so this isn't even top tier. Go check out the gameplay for a few minutes and see just how much reflexes and tactics are required

Hu flung pu has put over a year in screen time into fortnite but has no cash to show for it. Claims he’s the best fortnite player on this site.

eSport

Honestly, I rather see some kid like this win money over the majority of jackoffs in "real sports."

I agree. I’ve got nothing against the kid monetizing (even if I don’t get why anyone cares that much about video games) his talent at all and he looks like he’s a pretty decent kid.

But to call playing video games competitively a sport is wrong.

Why?

Mentally it is competitive with strategy and team chemistry

Physically have to be able to do these things within a split second.

Can't do these things at that level when you get older because the ability deteriorates.

They probably don’t get why you like watching football

They have leagues and whatnot that have growing fanbases etc

Because it lacks any amount of physical activity. If you can do it from your couch, it’s not a sport.

When you hear the word sport it automatically allures athletic ability.

This is exactly it right here. We fanatically watch guys run around after a ball - a child's toy.

And for those bitching about it not being physical, I'd like to remind you that John Daly is considered an "athlete."

I have literally never heard anybody call him an athlete. Never.
