About 3 million people or a little less than 1% of the population of the US dies each year.

Sorry, sir, we’re going to allow you to die of cancer so we can keep some beds open for COVID cases.

Thanks for fixing the OP.
Even though 149,200 is a high number, seeing it compared to other countries still gives good perspective when hearing about how terrible the US is allegedly handling this.

I believe this is what caused both my grandparents’ death.

-Drug overdoses increasing
-Suicides almost doubling
-Murders doubling in major cities
-People not getting medical care because they are afraid
-intentionally forcing nursing homes into taking COVID patients resulting in 50,000 deaths
But let's blame the actual virus instead of the RESPONSE to the virus and our incompetent government

I mean...that seems reasonable, right?

Can't have one without the other
ETA: Our leadership definitely could have done a better job, but it's not like this is a U.S. only problem.

quote:There is actually some evidence to suggest these types of deaths are down since while 18+ has a lot of excess deaths 17 and under is actually like 20-30 percent lower than usual, and accidents are a leading cause of death for they age group. Plus some insurers were even refunding customers at one point.
All oof the lockdowns have affected death rates from other causes. For example, automobile deaths must be way down?

Drug overdoses increasing
-Suicides almost doubling
quote:At least locally, the Columbus police were tweeting about an increase in murders in June, but they ignored that they were down in January-May so it was basically unchanged for the year (I think 1 more, but well down from the peak a couple years ago).
Murders doubling in major cities
So I highly doubt murders are anywhere close to double.
And based on your post history, I suspect you’re largely making these all up, or basing them on some really small samples or localities, in a thread about the entire nation.

23% over the average here, I’ll take that over the UK and Spain which are around 50% above their average deaths.

You have to wait until 2020 is in the books and look at the whole year to really evaluate it. Many of thee Covid deaths were on death's doorstep for something else before Covid got them. They weren't seeing th end of 2020 under any circumstances. I predict full year 2020 will have an increase in mortality but not as much as people think.

Shouldn't have got covid if they didn't want to die

The graph you posted in the OP doesn't agree with daily death rate of Americans.
There are just under 7,800 deaths each day in the U.S. from all causes. 2017 CDC Data
So with July 13 being the 193 day of the year, on average by that date 1,505,400 Americans would typically have died YTD. The "149,200" deaths shown on your graph doesn't make any sense.

Yet heart attacks, obesity deaths, strokes, etc are down.... Suicides are up right now and Covid is up..... There is a disconnect and we know the Covid numbers are not accurate
Posted on 7/18/20 at 5:38 pm to LSURussian
You’re reading the graph wrong. The Y axis is weekly deaths. The red number is excess deaths due to covid YTD. It’s the area under the curve

Isn't there a stickied thread for this type of post at the top of the OT?

While I agree in principle against lockdown now for this virus.....arguing that human beings aren’t immortal and will eventually die from one thing or another might not be the best way to get traction of your point.
