An adult male in his 30's was driving (mixed stories whether under the influence or not) and flipped the 4 wheeler with the 12 year old passenger. The kids parents were supposedly down in Port Vincent at another 4th of July celebration. Yes the driver is currently in jail tonight.

ATV crash in Denham Springs claims the life of a juvenile Matthew Fryou Jul 4, 2015 10:54 PM DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - A fatal ATV accident claimed the life of a juvenile on Saturday. The St. Helena Sheriff's Office says that the crash occurred on Calmes Road. Officials say that 36-year-old Joshua Tharpe was riding on an ATV with a juvenile on a sandbar. Tharpe allegedly took a sharp turn on the wet sand, flipping the ATV on the juvenile, claiming their life. Tharpe faces vehicular homicide charges. Details are limited at this time and this story will be updated as more information comes in.

Other cliff notes:
- 12 yr old is supposedly the godchild of the ATV driver.
- driver has been arrested 3 times in just 2 1/2 years for bar fights and other issues.
- numerous pictures of driver have been posted.
- driver posted on social media right after accident stating how he felt bad for the parents.

Vehicular homicide is a crime that, in general, involves the death of an individual other than the driver as a result of either criminally negligent or murderous operation of a vehicle. The former case and the more common conviction of unintentional vehicular homicide is known as vehicular manslaughter.

This is always terrible any time a very young life is lost. To the family and close friends I send prayers.

Awful. A former roommate of mine lost his 11 year old daughter the same way. Seriously, prayers to the family. Their pain will never go away.

Kids on 1000 pound machines that go 40 miles an hour and can flip over pretty easily is just a recipe for disaster. It's really sad. You see this stuff in the ER all the time. People don't understand the real risks that these things pose.

A coworker of mine lost his 12 year old brother to a 4 wheeler accident about a month ago. Just incredibly sad for a kid that age to lose their life in an accident like that.

This was one of those times as a nurse (and assistant coroner) when you step out of the room in the ER, and just need a minute to decompress. Just a terrible deal.

I've seen just about anything you could think up, and no matter how many times I see it, kids make it very real. You kind of get numb to a lot; you have to or else you'd mentally break down, but kids are always very real.

I see neighborhood kids around here riding 4 wheelers, mini bikes, sometimes with a helmet, sometimes without and unsupervised.

Did this happen Thanksgiving weekend about 4 years ago at their place in MS?

If I'm thinking about the same accident, I used to work with the child's mother. Terrible situation for the family.
