Had to put my 11 year old chocolate in September. He had a mass that ruptured and started throwing clots and stroking out. They just cant recover from that. But it started with weird changes like not drinking water. Two days later he was gone.

Goodluck to you. I still think about my boy daily.

Your dog will let you know when it’s ready. You’ll know. Don’t be selfish, respectfully.

Had this happen to a beloved Great Dane.

Took her for a crap ton of expensive tests at our regular vet and they found nothing.

Finally took her to a veterinary surgical hospital where they found horrific liver cancer and put her down that day.

This does NOT mean your dog has cancer, but if your regular vet finds nothing, take her to a real veterinary specialty hospital if you can afford to.

My girl did that 2 weeks before dropping dead one morning. Liver failure, and my wife didn’t want to take her to vet. Like others have said, they will let you know when it’s their time.

Man I’m sorry.
My 12 year old golden retriever did the same thing a few years ago. Soon after his back legs stopped working.

A very sad day. Still sucks to think about it.

Sorry man.

Well theres a big different between cyst and sarcoma. You dont "remove" a cyst.

Assuming they did an FNA. But you will need to get it removed and sent off to get an official answer. Did they do rads? Ultrasound?

It may be the kidneys shutting down. Happened to our 10 year old cattle dog. She had cysts on her hips, lost her appetite, amd even her desire to drink. If your vet ran labs and they came back normal though...I dunno, sounds odd. But you're doing what you can, so take heart in the comfort you can give.

offer him some beer instead

seriously though, bring him to the vet

its not good when they stop eating or drinking, and its often a sign of throat or stomach issues, which often is found to be from lukimia

have you notice any dark purple color to his tongue or mouth?

My 8 year old female lab had a bump on her belly, and after having it tested ended up being osteosarcoma. It is very rare to have it pop up on the mammary, but that’s what she had. Per LSU, full cancer treatment might have given her 6 months, but they just didn’t know. There have been so few cases and very little info on it, we opted for no treatment and she made it about 3 months. She did well until the last week, it came on hard and fast. I would make sure the vet tested that bump.

Same with my golden. He got the cyst removed, but it eventually popped back up. Once they have it, it's just a matter of time. Fortunately, he was his normal self for about 6 months or so after the cyst was removed. It seemed over night he really started going down hill quickly and we put him down shortly after that.

Not to mention I’m terribly depressed by this. I was recently diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and will lose most of my vision.

My dog was an enormous comfort. The thought of losing her is too much to bear. I know that sounds crazy

My dog did this. Stopped eating and drinking brought him to the vet for a few days, have him meds to help his appetite and nothing. He got so skinny and miserable in 3-4 days that I decided to put him down. It was not easy but he was clearly suffering and I didn't want that for him.
One of the tougher calls a man can make…

Dang, man. That’s rough and I’m sorry to hear that. Saying a prayer for you, your family and the pup.

Like I said if they didnt do rads and/or ultrasound you need to get it done. Especially if the labs were fine.

10 isn’t super old. She still has a few good years left if healthy. Get some pet bone broth and pour into canned food. Primal makes some that you can find in feed stores. Maybe pet smart and petco. It’s in the frozen section. Or any kind of pet brand. With broth, people kind isn’t good bc of the spices added. Keep feeding canned food. The water wouldn’t bother me as much yet unless she was turning down canned food and generally more lethargic. If so, I’d press on for an U/S or X-ray to check for cancer that might not yet be showing on lab work. Hemangiosarcoma is silent until it isn’t. It can be in the spleen. Lymphoma can be silent until it isn’t. It’s really hard to guess if it could be just age or not. Seek a 2nd opinion from another vet if your vet isn’t answering your concerns.

Not crazy at all, we've all been there it's a tremendous loss.

I'm going through it now, just hanging on until he gives me the sign he's ready. For now though, as long and he eats a bit and drinks and not in pain we're good. But he's slowly but surely fading away the past week.

Yup. A specialist or an internal medicine vet. Not all are certified as one.

Get her some beef bone broth to drink that should help her get hydrated and then take her back to your vet to find out why she's not drinking.

No, it does not sound crazy.

Pets are definitely a comfort in many ways and particularly when one is going through a rough time. Their unconditional love can go a long way.

I'm dealing with an issue with my 16 year kitty. I lost the other one about a year ago. It's that time in her life and I'm trying to maintain a positive atmosphere. Tough stuff.
