We are at 37° right now in north AL, so everything is good in that regard. Raining like hell, though. I'd like for the heaviest rain to go on and stop now.

North part of Ouachita Parish. Y’all already know, but it isn’t good. Sucks waiting on trees to snap and land on your home. Would be a miracle if at least one of the three threatening ones didn’t get us. Thought about grabbing the shot gun and a bunch of 6 and 8 shot…see if I can knock some of the ice from the top of the trees. Anyone ever tried it?
Trees are back to snapping all over again. The once beautiful woods behind my house look like a freaking war zone now. The tops of trees snapped as far as you can see.
I still believe there’s no way we’re getting power back any time soon. Now I believe it will be several days, at least. The widespread destruction to the grid is going to a massive job.

We are expected to get 12-18 inches. My only gripe is that I can't find any decent sausage up here for my gumbo. I took a chance at a local butcher with some pork sausage but it just isn't the same.

Where you at?

Looks like it’s switched over to snow again here in Louisville. Have about 4 inches down but it’s a solid layer of ice/sleet on top.
Our local neighborhood works folks posted that they’re having trouble with the salt mix freezing in the loader boxes because of the temps. It’s 16, feels like 4 and we just got hit with an extreme cold warning starting tomorrow morning through Tuesday.

Even if it doesn’t work seems like it would be fun

Think I’ll use the turkey gun. Wider spread.

Godspeed, Salty. The closer to I-20 you are looks worse in Monroe from what I can tell. My folks in Calhoun lost power about 1 pm yesterday but they’re okay.

Haha this is great and rare honesty from police
Cutting donuts is a right of passage.
Speaking of, I taught my kids winter driving in big parking lots. If you let them “lose control” they learn the boundaries.
Another hack if you are teaching your kids winter driving. Most people panic and cause fender benders at slow speeds as they lock brakes coming to a stoplight.
In the parking lot I had my kids go 20 and hit the brakes to stop. Then I had them go back and do it again from same braking point only this time I had them put shifter in Neutral. And the second method stopped them shorter than first method.
Told them they have to practice so its instinct and not panic. The interchanges where lights are turn icy faster as friction and car heat melt and refreeze. Thats where lots of fender benders happen.
Also taught them to move wheel tracks to side to try and find and rocks or pebbles or snow that allows wheels to find braking grip.
But cutting donuts and sliding around a big empty parking lot was fun yet educational.

How does it feel like something it’s not? If it was 5, would it feel like 5 or feel like something else? Did you use the heat index to offset the wind chill factor? Why can the heat index only be used when it’s hot and the wind chill only when it’s cold? What if your a fat baw and you feel like it’s 10 and a skinny baw feels like it’s 3, how do you reconcile both your feelings? Do you both go to a therapist and average out your feelings to see what the temperature feels like?

I hope everyone is safe and warm as possible.
Looks like the bad stuff missed us here in Humble. NGL, I was kind of looking forward to a 'snow' day tomorrow.
And the local weather people suck.

For us(New Albany) probably 2-5 days depending on what happens with the cold afterwards. Oxford and Ripley it’s going to be a couple of weeks for everyone best guess. TVA has a main transmission line down in Tippah county that is a huge problem.

Our daughter is here in south Louisiana .. works at OM. She realizes it’s too early to know any good info .. she’s just taking advantage of down time and momma cooking for her.
She’s dreading cleaning out the fridge/freezer. #nasty if it gets “warm”.

I used to get out that way pretty often, going to the first monday flea market and the shops in Corinth and Walnut. There are good folks over there, even if many of them don't have a lot. It always struck me the lack of industry/business in that area.
