That’s what fricked us in 2009. In August 2008 we had hurricane remnants that damaged a lot of trees. Come the ice storm in early 2009, they were damaged enough that it was the perfect storm for trees breaking/falling.

That said, it doesn’t take much when you get up over .5 inches of ice accumulation for even healthy trees to start breaking.

That is a whole lot of weight, and trees are more brittle in the Winter when their sap has "dropped". Add a wind factor and it can be even worse.

We got down to 49°. I was able to get it up to 54° in spots.

Not true. Early forecasts showed the chance of ice in BR. Local Mets weren’t sure the day before if it would or not. Can’t take that chance for legal reasons.

Are we talking about the talking head meteorologists that stand in front of a green wall or real meteorologists that work for the state or NWS?

Didn't know the TV people had some sort of legal liability in a bad forecast?

If that was true, a certain TV Dr. should have been sued 10 years ago when he said it wasn't snowing despite pictures and videos showing otherwise.

I thought the worst that could happen to them they would loose a few fake points on some scoring company that allows you proclaim most accurate forecast as scored by XYZ. I think WDSU in New Orleans was using this monkier. I guess their score took a beating when one of their meteorologist was arrested for DV.

I read that .25 inches of ice on a power line is 500 lbs. guess that’s translates to trees?

Freeze line got really close to BR. People gripe about it but it was the correct thing to do. Give parents and staff as much time as possible to make arrangements.

The cancellation could have been reversed by Sunday AM.

My stepson was telling me he saw a news story that said (making the # up since I don’t remember) 1/2 inch of ice on a 30’ wide tree is 3000 lbs or 1,432 Golden Retrievers

I drove thru BR early this morning and there were definitely some slick spots. Schools made the right call.

People have been stranded on I-20 near Ruston now for over 30 hours. Traffic is backed up for miles.

The National Guard is bringing supplies to those stranded. This is insane.
