Was it wise for EBR to cancel school today? How's the weather in BR?
Posted on 1/26/26 at 3:08 pm to GeorgeTheGreek
It's a beautiful, sunny day.

Freeze line got really close to BR. People gripe about it but it was the correct thing to do. Give parents and staff as much time as possible to make arrangements.

It was ridiculous for any school district anywhere in southeast Louisiana to close today. My wife works in the system and she's pissed at me because I keep calling them retarded for closing. She wanted the day off. You know what? I want the day off too but I work in the real world!
^^ that's what I told her. I do not recommend telling your wife this if she also works in a school system that closed today

The freeze line
a) was never forecast to be anywhere near Baton Rouge when precipitation was still present
and
b) indeed never got anywhere near Baton Rouge while precipitation was present
I'd like to know what meteorologist was advising these school districts from Baton Rouge eastward.

Have you noticed that the “win” part of this team has changed from an Asian Nguyen to a white dude named Wynne. Like was the main qualification to join the team was to have a name that sounds like “win”.

I thought the same thing. The gimmick isn’t as good anymore
Word is the og Nguyen’s was a little too stereotypical Vietnamese and loved to gamble

After 28 frigid hours without power here in middle TN, we thank God for the great linemen of NES!!! Back on! Hoping the rest of the 150k+ are restored quickly and with great safety to the linemen crews!

Glad it’s back on ! May I ask how cold it got in your home? Reading that some places in Oxford MS which was slammed are like 40 degrees .. saw a report of bottles of wine reportedly bursting in someone home/apartment.
Thankfully there people are being finally able to get to their cars and leave town — although the city is still saying to shelter in place.

I find that hard to believe.

Never at any point in the forecast did it make sense for nola area schools to close. Absurd.

I am no arbonist but the damage to these trees has been swift and unbelievable. Were they vulnerable to such and just happened to show it under the weight of ice and wind?
We've lost pines to drought and beetles but never like this due to ice

In the interest of full disclosure I haven't looked into this at all. Just gonna throw it out there to chum the waters a bit....
