Will the Saints keep 5 RB's on active roster?

I'm curious, especially with the additions of Adrian Peterson and Alvin Kamara this off-season, how the RB corps will play out this season. How many RB's do the Saints stick with?

Ingram and Peterson are the 100% locks to make it. Now, in my mind, I have a hard time seeing the Saints keeping both Kamara and Cadet, they fill the same role in the offense and have a similar style. Lasco showed flashes last year, but how many carries could he realistically expect to get?

In my mind, Cadet is the odd man out here. Kamara will take his spot as the receiving back, while Ingram and AP are the primary ball carriers. I think the Saints will keep Lasco on as insurance in case Ingram or AP go down with an injury.

What do y'all think?

Lasco gives you special teams play so I think he's basically a lock as is Kamara.

Comes down to if they think Cadet is better than a linebacker or tight end for special teams

most of us still cant believe they brought cadet back to begin with, he never has been worth a shite as a RB so he was a blocker and half decent receiver who rarely made any yardage after the catch. maybe its just my imagination, but it always seems like he lost yards when they threw it to him, at least in short yardage situations.

hard to imagine there isn't a better option out there to replace cadet on the roster

Ingram
Peterson
Kamara
Lasco

...Murphy is gone. Cadet may have a chance at 5th RB/5th or 6th WR final spot.

I agree I think Murphy is gone and they keep cadet until they find someone better.
Murphy has been in dog house since he fumbled all those punts. Tommy Lee Lewis is redundant to murphy

Ya. I fricked it up. Doesn't make sense how I wrote it. Lasco supposed to be in Cadet's spot on list. Editing.

Lampman provides better special teams play with regards to coverage

Good question OP.

Here's my take on it per player:

AD: Roster lock. $3.5m guaranteed, he'd have to show he's fallen off the cliff to be cut.
Ingram: Roster lock. As much angst he receives, he's an above average NFL RB with both rush and some rec prowess.
Kamara: Roster lock. You don't rate a guy this high to add a new draft pick and cut him.
Lasco: Likely on roster unless someone else really emerges to impress.

Out:
Cadet: Lesser talent, role is surpassed by others.
Murphy: Anything he does is done better by other players and he's not a RB.

I look back at some of the best CSP teams (2006, 2009) where Saints made NFCCG and won Super Bowl.

In 2006:
Deuce had 244-1057-10 and 30-196-0 line
Reggie had 155-565-6 and 88-742-2 line

In 2009:
Bell had 172-654-5 and 4-12-0
PT had 147-793-6 and 39-302-2
Reggie had 70-390-5 and 47-335-3

In 2011 (Sproles):
Ingram had 122-474-5 and 11-46-0
PT had 110-562-5 and 50-425-1
Sproles had 87-603-2 and 86-710-7

In 2016:
Ingram had 205-1043-6 and 46-310-4
Hightower had 133-548-4 and 22-200-1

In 2017 I think the thought and breakdown is this:

AD: Bell in 2009, a few more recs (15-20) and 140-160 carries.
Ingram: PT in 2009, 150-175 carries, 40 recs.
Kamara: Bush/Sproles role with less max recs, 50-70 carries, 55-70 recs.

Basically you get your thumper, hybrid and joker and it sets up nicely. I only wish TE position was more of a known. Would love that high baller go up and grab it in EZ to pair with MT and the underneath game.

Yikes, ok.

I'd explain why this doesn't equate, but won't.

Disagree. Payton personally went work him out and put him through drill set. He traded up for him and essentially placed a 2nd round value on him.

He's talented, he's going to produce. He will score. I'm going to go 6-7TDs on the season if you can believe it between rush, receive and PR.

He's going to be Darren Sproles essentially.

We are keeping Cadet to retrieve CSP's vicodin and "juicy fruit" during games. Payton really likes him and the only logical explanation for Cadet playing for the Saints so many years is that Cadet is Sean's dealer.

Kamara is also a 100% lock, the Saints gave up a 2nd rounder to get him. He's also the kick returner the Saints have been looking for. Cadet is a poor, poor man's version of Kamara, I think he's the odd man out for that reason and also because Lasco is such a strong contributor on special teams.

Like most have said I can't believe Cadet will be more valuable than another roster spot.

He shouldn't make the roster but Sean seems to have a thing for him.

Murphy's probably gone. We have Ginn, TLL, or Kamara that can all be return men.

Peterson replaces Hightower
Kamara replaces Cadet
Ingram stays
Lasco stays

Ginn Jr. and Kamara do what Murphy does better than Murphy. Murphy goes.

Antonio Pittman is certainly the exception and I highly doubt the situation would be repeated, but there is the precedent.

Draft picks still have to produce in camp and the preseason, unless they're 1's or 2's.
