What’s to stop a qb from throwing the ball backwards once

Yep. If you’re being tackled throw the ball at the ground. No grounding according to the rule.

Judgement call by the official. Called exactly as the rule is written. Good call, bad rule, maybe. The rule compels the official to determine the intended flight of the ball after the throwing motion has begun.

That was basically Eisen’s take. How do you have a rule in place that doesn’t line up with what you actually see on the field. The rule is in place and was correctly applied; however, they need to fix the rule ASAP.

If cocking your arm up = intention to throw, simply have QBs keep the arm cocked at all times. No sack fumbles ever again.

Your post count at 1 min per post averages out at almost an entire year straight of posting. If you average 10 min of browsing per post, it puts you at 10 years straight of browsing/posting on this site. Your account is 22 years old. So that's about half of the last 2 decades spent on this site or half of your day, every day. Incomprehensible.

QB's can just drop back with the ball elevated to the shoulder and keep it there until you are ready to throw. Fumble every time you are hit and its incomplete. No more sacks period!

How is this play different from when a qb takes a snap and goes to throw a quick pass to the wide receiver along the line of scrimmage but accidently throws it too far back? If that ball hits the ground if the wr does not make the catch then it is considered a lateral which in turn becomes a fumble once it hits the ground? His intent on that quick pass off of the line of scrimmage was to throw it forward but he accidently threw it too far back and it becomes a fumble once on the ground but in this case, the qb's intent to throw it forward gets rewarded because he is getting hit in the process?

Maybe, but there is no guarantee how they will call it after “further review” bullshite.
