We're known for signing big name FAs and having them fail miserably. Hopefully with him still being young and hungry, he'll ball out.
I mean look at who we've signed expecting their veteran presence and abilities to help us tremendously:
Brandon Browner (Penalty machine and burned constantly)
Jairus Byrd (1 int in 2 seasons)
Champ Bailey (Signed in April and released in August)
C.J. Spiller (Lasted barely a season and had 2 TD)
Adrian Peterson (27 carries for 80 yards)
James Laurinaitis (injured and was waived)
Jason David (straight trash)
Victor Butler (injured in training camp and released)

Yea those people happened.
So did Brees, Vilma, Sharper, Sproles, etc…
I wouldn’t say we are known for swinging and missing on FA .

Of that list only Byrd was the biggest disappointment. Of course the medical team did not do their due diligence and look at his medical issue. Anyone expecting Champ Bailey or Adrian Peterson to do anything special were delusional.
The Saints did sign the number 1 FA of All Time in Drew Brees. I don’t expect Honey Badger to not work hard and just collect a paycheck. He still wants to prove to all those “experts” who thought he would be out of NFL in 3 years after being drafted. Plus he is coming back home. He will ball out.

Yeah the biggest bust had to be Byrd...I think Browner just pissed me off more after running his mouth about how garbage we were and how he took the money and ran.

A lot of those guys were either never that good or past their prime.
Byrd was the exception and he was OK
In 2016.

JFC. He'll be fine. The guy has balled tf out for three franchises, playing both free and strong in different schemes. This signing is virtually zero risk.

Byrd, Brwoner & David were all square pegs trying to be forced in round holes.
Peterson was essentially deemed unnecessary due to AK. He did crack 1k yards with Wash in 2018, then had 900 in 2019
As pointed out, Laurinaitis & Butler had injuries, not sure how you put that on the team.
Spiller was a miss; although he did get us that win v Dallas in OT
Don't recall what was expected of Bailey, but he did retire after being cut so he may have just realized he didn't have "it" anymore

The 2 that I still think were terrible were Bryd and David. Bryd couldn’t get healthy and David couldn’t cover.

Marcus maye and mathieu are going to be a great safety tandem.
I'm really high on marcus maye.
The saints got a steal

We've had just as many, if not more, big name FA signings that worked out (met or exceeded expectations) than those that didn't. I don't know how you can come to the conclusion that we're known for bust after bust unless you're just a miserable frick who can only remember failures and not successes. Which admittedly a lot of users on this site fall into that category unfortunately.

Matthieu, G-J, & Lattimore will be a crazy half of the field for WRs.

Badger is gonna be LSU badger on the Saints defense, we have players who ball every where. Will free him up to make plays and not have to cover up others defensive deficiencies.

I agree with that, but I included them in the square peg round hole analogy because David was strictly a Cover 2 guy, then when saints gave him that big contract tried to force him into a press-man role.
Byrd was injured when they signed him, and when he was finally healthy they had him lining up 20-30 yards off the line of scrimmage
