Everyone assumes losing his HOF quarterback was why Payton “abandoned” the Saints. But really it was the steady downward spiral of the city since the Katrina recovery years that pushed Sean Payton away.

By the way, if people stopped starting threads about why we should stop hating Payton, or why we should hate Payton the board would finally stop talking about him. Also, he's no longer with the team, so these threads really belong over here

Seems like he would have left a lot sooner if that were the case.

How about we stop talking about Sean Payton, period? Dude is gone. He wanted to be gone. He almost quit in 2015. He was lined up to leave in 2018 until Anthony Davis happened. And he quit on the Saints after 2021-22 season. He didn’t want to be here. Let it go.

This was the reason it wasn’t worth being here anymore. So don’t act like it isn’t part of it. He’s gone idgaf NFL is rigged they probably rigged it for the Saints to win the SB for a feel good story….it’s just entertainment.

Nah he abandoned the saints.

You tell me if Mahomes drops 1 spot and we have a second generational QBs he’s trying to go live in Denver?

Dude didn’t have a QB. Didn’t have draft capital. Didn’t want to coach a rebuild.

Shouldn’t admin start moving Payton threads to the more sports board?

Let’s be real. If you’ve got Payton money, you ain’t living a bad life in New Orleans. I could make a case it’s better than Denver or at least equal. $20M/year is frick you money in NOLA compared to Denver.

Payton quit because the window closed and he didn’t want to be part of a rebuild. It’s fine. If he wants to be a bitch that’s totally his choice. I can love him for winning us a Super Bowl and hate him for quitting on us.

Yep can’t blame him. Any sane person would choose Denver over the Dastroya’s chocolate city. I live in Telluride and would NEVER move back to Louisiana to live. It’s just a shite state but I still love my Tigers and Saints.

We'll hate on who we want, but thanks. Still a terrible move to try and get out while still coaching the Saints. And I don't mean under contract, but retired. Flirting with Miami, etc.

I know that people have often cast undue shade New Orleans' way, but the city is truly in a death spiral. In all its history, criminals did not often cross the red line that was French Quarter tourists and nicer metro suburbs. Katrina cleared out much of the riff-raff but now with no collusion between gangs and police (like there was pre-Katrina) there's nothing keeping the peace.

Truly heart-breaking to be alive to witness the death of one of America's great historic cities.

I literally left New Orleans for Denver. I get it. But the dude is also a millionaire so it's not like he can't live very comfortably wherever.
