Hopefully this is a salary dump more than anything. Saunders was due $8M over the next three seasons (two of which are void years).

They save the $1.3M salary, but will still have his $1.2M bonus hit and $3.5M bonus in 2026.

Of course that cap savings for shipping off Saunders will be used to cover Luke’s $1.15M base salary. So essentially a wash between 2 guys that needed to have things fall the right way to stay on their respective teams anyway

It is a wash. Fortner probably has a better shot at making the team with Clapp out.

Someone mentioned this earlier with the way Simpkins played, maybe they envision him as a guard, this allows him to slide over.

Possibly.

Supposedly had center/guard flexibility when drafted

After last season, we should be happy to have someone that has actually played Center in the NFL as a backup

Reading up on X, Luke was a whipping boy for the Jags fans. They always complained that he was weak and sucks, and they were ready to cut him. Just saying

If he can play RG he sounds like an upgrade to Ruiz.

Ruiz’s play yesterday was shocking. He is going to get rattler or Shough killed.

But to the other poster that mentioned cut candidate & getting something now instead of nothing by cutting him in a week is exactly right!

Jacksonsville was going to cut the o-lineman.

And we were going to cut Bink.

We traded players that were going to get cut but the teams needed the position more than the other.

Happens a lot to do that before the first cut down day

Crap !!!!!

I wanted a Draft Pick !!

A 7th Rd pick would have been fine.

Well we essentially got a player who will likely make the team at a position of needed depth.

So this is essentially better than a 7th rounder.

Never will understand why they extended Ruiz. He basically ended Brees' career

If someone would give me a 7th for Ruiz I would take it and run. He’s awful. Maybe he was a center only capable player who we stupidly drafted when we had just taken a center the year before and knew we had a player in McCoy. I’ll never get the Ruiz pick. Both Tee Higgins and Brandon Aiyuk were still available and Justin Jefferson had just been taken 2 picks before.

I remember reading everything pre draft about Ruiz and how he loves the center position. "I was born to be a center."

It was a dumb pick. We took the guys love and natural position and pissed on it. Should have drafted an actual guard or a different position in general.
