No way the Pelicans stay long term. NOLA is a broke arse city, and the corporate money isn't there anymore. Besides, the attendance is near the bottom of the league. Zion will walk after his contract is up, and they'll have no face for the franchise.

Hopefully, she has the right accountants and lawyers that can keep the IRS at bay. Otherwise depending on when she goes the biggest benefactor will be the federal government.

When you donate the assets to the foundation that is a charitable gift not subject to estate taxes. The foundation will then have a requirement to put out 5% of its value annually at a discounted value of the assets. If she anyone worth a shite working on this, which I would assume she does the money isn’t going to the government.

With the right people leading the foundation and the investment of the proceeds the giving that foundation does could be massive for generations.

Wish Gayle would just return my calls. I already proposed I marry her so I get the team when she passes. My wife isn't to thrilled, but she will get over it.

IF, Gayle truly wants the Saints to reside in N.O. forever...she should structure the 'ownership' akin to the Packers, with share-holders being the long term season ticket holders {80% + local}...can't relocate a team with local/regional 'ownership'/clout ! Season ticketholders should begin NOW to present such a 'plan' to Gayle !
Can we get a 'legal-mind' to step up and propose something ?

Also I said it in the Pels thread, but this is obviously partially a negotiation tactic.

Leases up in 2025 and they want the sweetheart of all sweetheart deals for the teams with the tradeoff of longer term and iron clad, with the spector of death/sale/moving looming large.

99 year lease, with a guarantee of a new stadium after the first 20. (ie. After End of the Caesars deal)

This sounds good and all but then you see the reaction to two missed Aldrick Rosas kicks and you come to the realization that Saints fans aren't cutout for that type of arrangement.

They also literally cannot do it, the league does not allow it anymore. Packers are grandfathered in but no other team can ever do it.

Wrong. Zion will likely force a trade at the end of next season. His family is pretty much already like "frick NOLA".

But don't worry Pels fans. I'm sure we'll be in line for another generational talent to be forced to trade away.

#2. The article mentions the Bills sale, but they had a ready-made local buyer in the owner of the Sabres.

Regarding the Bills, remember that the Pegula's (Bills owners post Ralph Wilson in 2014) said this as soon as they bought the team:

quote:

“It is gratifying to reassure these great fans that the two franchises, so important to our region, are here to stay,” Terry Pegula said in a statement released by the Sabres. “Ralph Wilson left an indelible mark on our community and we will strive every day to honor his legacy.”

But now in 2021 when it's time for new stadium talks, this happens:

quote:

Citing an unnamed ownership source, Seth Wickersham of ESPN reported that Austin, Texas could be a potential city the Bills would consider moving to if they do not get a new stadium in New York. The Bills’ contract with their current home in Orchard Park, Highmark Stadium, runs out in 2023.

I can guarantee you, without any doubt, that the Saints are going to want a new stadium in the next decade. When they come to the state and say "We want a $1.4 billion dollar stadium like Buffalo's" or "We want a new stadium like the Bears are getting in Arlington Heights" etc.. These new owners, whomever they might be, are only going to be able to walk into the Raiders' Allegiant Stadium or Rams' SoFi Stadium so many times.

What is the state of Louisiana going to do? Where will we get the $2 to $3 billion it's going to take when they inevitably start squeezing this trigger? The ball is in their court right now. Plan accordingly.
