#Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker is flying today for a visit to the #Saints tomorrow, source said. Coming off a clean ACL tear, Hooker's prospects for the 2023 season are positive. New Orleans picks 29th.

I think Hooker is one of those classic QB's that drop in the draft. I haven't followed this draft as much as others, but I have hard time believing he goes in the 1st, possibly not even the 2nd.

He's extremely old and injured

Would be fine with it at 71 or later, but I don't think he'll drop that far.

Referencing pick 29 is odd. If we draft hooker there after just signing carr, I will be furious, and I like hooker. Maybe some team actually buys this, and trades up in front of us to take hooker, thus allowing a lineman to be there for us at 29

Can’t see us taking him now. Doesn’t really make sense.

Picking him any lower than the first round would give us way less time with him on a rookie deal. We’re stuck with Carr for at least two years..so drafting him in like the 3rd or lower means even if we dumped Carr ASAP to start him, we’d have such a small amount of years before he was paid. Throw in that he’s older than most prospects and it makes it a weird set of circumstances.

Just doesn’t make sense anymore.

Let's say we take him to be Carr's replacement. Other than being stupid (and wasting 3 years of his rookie deal), then we have to make an IMMEDIATE assessment on a mega extension when he's like 28. Nobody has explained to me how HH makes any rational sense after signing Carr.

Just to play Devil's advocate,

Carr is 32, not many QB's play close to 40 much lass into their 40's.

The Saints may know sooner rather than later if their choosing Carr was the right move or not.

Having Hooker on the roster gives them (in theory) something then never had with Brees. A viable starting QB in the case they need to move on Carr.

Hooker doesnt need to be thrown to the wolves right out of the gate and in a year or two we may have a better understanding of if Hooker can be that guy.

If Carr is lighting it up and Hooker looks like a legit starter it's a good problem to have. Even if he then becomes a trade asset for you.

Again I wouldn't pick him with 29 or 40, But at 71 he would have value for the Saints.

But having said all of that the Saints have needs that could be filled at 71 that would maybe give them a impact sooner.

b/c he doesn't... IF we take a QB, and that's a big if now, it would be 6th or later, for some developmental practice squad player, that we are essentially taking a flyer on ...

Perfect scenario....

Saints pick at 29 and Levis and Hooker are both on the board.

Saints trade down to say 36-37 and pick up and extra 2nd this year or next.

Then at 37 they take Hooker.

Drafting a QB early this year because of the contract situation just doesn't make a lot of sense, especially one as old as Hooker. If its that's 21 ok, maybe.

I think you have to wait at least a year or two for it to make sense. You want a guy to start as early in his rookie deal as he can.

I'd rather Duggan if he goes later

How did Hooker do at Virginia tech?

I know they didn't run the same kind of offense that hooker played in at Tennessee.

What I mean is people are all about what he did at Tennessee in the production that he had there but there's got to be more to it than that.

Duggan was a good college qb but man his combine was awful.

What part of his combine was "awful" exactly?

I don’t think Loomis will ever be put in this QB situation again, so I think he’ll keep drafting QBs until he hits on one

You only have a two year deal with Derek. You need to have a future qb waiting in the wings

He should visit the Breakers instead.
