Odell Beckham to be released by Browns on Friday

As Thursday night comes to a conclusion, however, we’re told that the Browns currently plan to release receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday. The move is expected to be accompanied by a revised contract that reduces the team’s obligation to pay Beckham, if he’s not claimed on waivers and becomes eligible for the balance of his salary termination pay. The challenge for Beckham becomes not making the reduced salary so low that someone claims the contract on waivers.

I seriously doubt he clears waivers. This gets interesting if he does though. He would be so much fun to watch in Sean’s offense, he’s very good at running the intermediate routes and I’m okay with that considering Taysom throws a moon ball lol

I do. I don’t think any team lets Cleveland off the hook for his salary

I just feel like somebody in contention will eat that contract to bring him in. He immediately makes any team he joins better. But I’m all for him going un claimed lol

Ain’t nobody taking his salary. He might be washed up.

I don't see no one taking up that big arse contract on a guy that a question mark.

Redskins paid 34.5 million/3 years for Curtis Samuel. Giants paid 72 million/4 years for Kenny Golliday. $8 million for 1 year for Odell really isn’t a crazy number for someone with his talent even with the question marks.

Odell is still due 8 million over the last 9 weeks of the year.
There are 11 teams that have the space to fully absorb his remaining contract off waivers (not including the Browns)
Jacksonville, Philly, Denver, Carolina, Seattle, the Chargers, Baltimore, Washington, Tennessee, Cincinnati, and Houston.
Of those, we can rule out Jacksonville, Houston, and Washington as contenders. Philly, Denver, and Seattle are on life-support for the playoffs so missing may be better in the long run for them...
For the remaining teams, Carolina desperately needs someone on their offense worth a damn not named CMC. Baltimore and Tennessee are leading their respective divisions but obviously Tennessee may need some help on offense for the rest of the regular season.
Cincy and LA are the AFC wildcard teams right now if the season ended today. Cincy's offense has been fine but LA's offense needs a spark but I am not sure OBJ is an upgrade over Keenan Allen at this point in time.
So I don't really see any of these teams claiming him off waivers...but if they do, I think Tennessee to pair with Julio and AJ Brown could be fun until Henry gets healthy.
OFC, I would love for him to clear waivers and for us to bring him home.

I think Baltimore makes the most sense of those teams listed.

He also has two busted shoulders that he’s trying to wait until the off-season to get surgery on

Saints need to put in a waiver claim for him.
Then sign Jackson and then they stand a chance winning it all

I like OBJ, but Payton is already having trouble with one diva wide receiver. Why the hell would he want another one?

with what money? If we claimed him we would be 7 million over the cap.
I think we would have had to overpay on a trade for him to reduce his cap hit to 1.5 million since the Browns had more than enough space to eat his salary in exchange for picks.

Trade deadline has passed.

Sainta cant afford to claim him. They would have to hope he clears waivers and that he would want to come here.

Sounds like the browns are going to rework his deal to lower his cap number prior to release…
NOT good news for clearing waivers
Basically sounds like they don’t want Odell to be able to make it to free agency and pick where he plays.

Odeall should rest his busted shoulders or be a bust. What has this guy done since he made the spectacular grab and influenced millions to try to catch the ball with one hand instead of two?

Doubtful anyone takes his contract on. He’s been injured the last few years and a head case. But u never know.

They have marquis Brown as their number one, paid pretty good money for Sammy Watkins in the off-season and their #1 pick just came back a couple weeks ago they trying to work into the offense. And they are mostly a running team. Baltimore makes no sense for him.
