Just glad we didn’t trade up

I was nervous as hell during picks 3 and 4, waiting for the Saints helmet to pop up on the screen. Saints let the draft come to them and got the best receiver in the draft and a major position of need.

1000% this was a Payton thing. Loomis pre Payton actually traded down (more than up iirc), minus that one stupid trade.
Moore seems to be a calming influence, and Loomis has said in interviews that he (Loomis) is also an extremely patient person (even referring to how patient he was waiting to draft Shough).

Same here.
Taking one of the Best WRs of the draft and not giving up future capital is great.

By waiting for Shough, he means not wanting to pay what the Giants did to move up and get Dart and THEN deciding to let Shough come to him?

Tbh, based on everything said, it was ALWAYS going to be Shough. So they were just being patient to not trade up for him at the end of the first or when the next round started where a QB needy team might have jumped on him.
But they said they had him pegged for quite a while and was hoping they could have gotten him for a steal before the East-West Bowl.
Literally all the smoke before the draft about a team having him as the best QB that draft was about us.

We kept all our picks, drafted the guy a lot of people think is the best WR in the draft. WR is a position of need on the team and a great position of value to draft in the first round for salary cap purposes.
The draft is truly a crap shoot as far as individual players. Maybe Tyson’s injury history is problematic or maybe it’s nothing burger. Really impossible to say.
But the process was spot on for this draft

The narrative of "If he's healthy" that scares everyone is also kind of telling.
There is no "Is that guy good?" conversation because everybody knows he's fricking sick.

I wonder what Tenn wanted to trade back? Once AZ took Love, it feels like the Titans were a bit shocked and still went O. It would be great to know if the Saints reached out to see about getting Reese and what the price was. Tenn really fricked up taking Tate at #4 and could've had a great WR at 8 with an extra pick or two. I'm guessing they wanted a 2027 1st and nobody was giving that up. Chop your nose to spite your face...

Same. Also glad Love got selected ahead of us! As good as he is and is going to be, I did not want to spend #8 pick on RB after just handing a 4yr/$52M deal to Etienne in free agency

YES. This year we need the infusion of talent at key positions with our first 5 picks, and future draft capital to use after this season unfolds.

I am not disputing this. But there were credible reports (Mickey may have even confirmed) that talked about the Saints trying to get back in the 1st for a QB. Everyone naturally assumed Dart, but it very well could have been for Shough.
I also do not disagree with the desire to get back in the first if you have a QB in mind. If you're right, that 5th year option is worth it. I was just calling out Mickey's comment about being an extremely patient person

quote:Correct. Underhill was all over Shough the week or two before the draft, just like he was all over Tyson this time. He knew. It was just a question whether the Saints would wait till 40 to draft him. Dart was not part of the equation.
it was ALWAYS going to be Shough. So they were just being patient to not trade up for him

Agree, but I KNOW that Loomis is burning his phone up right now to move from 42 to 33-35ish

For who? Seems like we’re in a good spot.

I just don't think he can help himself
There's speculation that a lot of teams are moving up trying to get McNeil-Warren
