You can restructure just about everyone else and not touch Carr. I’m not going the name everyone you should get the picture. Some players will be released with the understanding they Weill be resigning after junes 1st.

This is nothing new.

Honestly I just don’t want to watch an offense quarterbacked by him again…it’s insanely dull and frustrating at the same time, can’t stand the guy

Carr isn't a POS guy but at the same time has this cringey vibe to him at times.

I don't hate the guy but resent the way the irresponsible way that the saints have manipulated his current cap number.

51 million he is due this year.

he was a Dennis Allen pick though.

and DA is fricking gone.

Just turn the page

Not likely to find anyone willing to trade for Carr

Who are you bringing in to play QB? It’s easy to just hate hate hate. It’s harder to offer a solution.

I agree with all this.

I think he makes some teams better and has some value. The problems are 1) teams can wait and see if we cut him and 2) teams aren’t likely to want to take on some of his salary.
I could see him being a bridge QB for Jets, Colts, Titans or Giants for whoever doesn’t get Sanders or Ward in the draft.

I think Underhill said you can cut and restructure everyone on the roster not named Carr and still not get under the cap.

Problem #3 - he has a no trade clause that it makes no sense for him to waive.

His most recent pod basically said that there are two scenarios:

Option 1: you cut Carr this year, restructure everyone else and get cap compliant. Then move on from the restructured players the following year.

Option 2: you cut bait with a lot of the older guys this year, keep Carr and cut him the following year.

Basically, we can’t reset the roster AND get rid of Carr in the same season. It’s a two season type of deal. Personally, I’d rather just see what Rattler is made of but Trip and Nick brought up a good point - unless you hit on a once in a million 2017 draft - you’re basically throwing Rattler to the wolves. They think it’s smarter to just let Carr take those hits since he’s gone the next year anyway instead of potentially stunting whatever development Rattler might make down the road

The most realistic plan of attack is to keep Carr one more year, tank the roster so even if he plays above average, you’ll still only win 4-5 games, and then cut him next year. Basically, pull what Payton did in Denver with Russ.

It's 3, because whether it's Carr or the mass of veteran contracts, they'll be June 1 cuts, pushing the real impacts onto year 3.

This also ignores the regular issues teams deal with that come up (like when Ram got hurt for us), which can make this plan even murkier.

It also assumes few re-signings, which may be prudent with Olave and his concussion issue which seems chronic.

Slo
Is something like this doable within all the rules of contracts in the nfl?

If we paid say half his 2025 salary in a trade around 25 mil. Would we eat 50 mil this year but save 70 mil the next two years? Or there abouts.

Just dumping him seems foolhardy but can something similar to this work as I think some team will need a average qb next year.

The issue is the combination of his dead cap and our status of being way over the cap already, mixed in with a deadline in a week to be cap compliant for next year.

The dead cap is based on signing bonuses he has already received, both initially and after our restructure last year.

Do you have the slightest understanding of how stupid it would be, from a salary standpoint, to cut Rattler at this point?

Carr could not understand Pete Carmichael’s offense , so we got rid of Carmichael . Payton was happy to take him . Dennis Allen had to have Carr to support his position . Deep down inside he might have known he was in over his head at head coach .

He’s just an average QB making average money, he is not the problem
