The contract Jameis is signing is not a long term commitment to him. If someone falls to you that has good upside, I am all for drafting a QB in round 1 or 2. You let Jameis run the show this year and give your drafted QB a chance to compete next year. Worst case is you have a young, cheap QB with potential ready to start in year 3. Best case, you have a young, cheap QB with potential that beats out Jameis next season.

The deal they gave him is probably a prove it type of deal. Giving him a chance to earn a long term contract.

Ok genius, which one?

This ain’t madden bro. You can’t just pick a QB then go in and change his ratings after you realize you drafted a shite sandwich

I think prove it deals and bridge deals for a vet QB are the same thing.

You know that all the restructures pushed money back to the next few years. Jameis gives you a chance to compete the next few years, but a QB on a rookie contract will allow you to remain competitive while all those studs next contracts are coming due.

Whichever one Mickey and Jeff want. Mike D has said it often. When you don't have a franchise QB, you are in the drafting QB business. Unless you think Ian Book will develop into something, you draft someone else.

I certainly don't think they're done at the QB position.

I could see another vet and a draft pick.

Personally I hope they are still working the phones with Cleveland.

Get some help for the team's needs in this draft and worry about a quarterback next draft. This draft's crop of quarterbacks are not too good.

There are zero QBs in this draft that I’d consider to be franchise QBs

You can’t shoehorn a pick just because that’s the position you want to go with

I agree but also these sorts of evaluations are wrong pretty often. There are a ton of "surefire future" type guys going #1 overall like Lawrence, Winston etc meanwhile guys like Watson and Mahomes are predicted to be not as good and fall into the teens

I say this only to say that most likely there is probably at least one guy in this class who will be a future starter for a team. I trust our scouting department, if they actually love a guy then I'm fine with it.

Doesn't matter what any of us think by reading bloggers' takes. It only depends on what the team that spends millions of dollars scouting players for years thinks.

I don't really like any of the QBs this draft. Take a WR who can make an impact immediately to make life easier for Jameis and CGM. We can revisit QB next draft if Jameis sucks, but I liked what I saw from him last year with a MASH unit at WR

There isn’t one really worth drafting, but let’s just draft one for shits and giggles.

They'll all be gone by 13. You now have Atlanta, Seattle, Carolina, Houston, maybe even Washington and New York all competing for a draft QB.

I personally don’t see any qb’s in this draft that look like long term nfl starters

I’d rather move up and get one of the top OL/DL prospect.

Im afraid you are right, but I would jump on Pickett if he were to fall to 18.

There is not a single QB in the draft that I would say has "good upside".

It's the weakest QB draft I can remember, and I've been following drafts since the mid-90s.

OTOH, next year looks solid.

So you sign Famous for two years. If he doesn't absolutely light up the scoreboard this year, draft a QB next year and go from there.
