It would be great if all contracts worked that way. Say you are injured you get 50% pay rate and the difference is put back on the salary cap.

Unfortunately the NFLPA has fixed that.

Unfortunately? In a game as violent as football that would be fricking bullshite.

Davenport is a definite CAST-OFF...admit you made another small school/absurdly high draft choice...equally disinterested in the sport and injured !

I wouldn’t sign anyone but practice squad bums. Get as many comp picks and make sure you have no1 pick for next year. Take the absolute best QB, and get out of Cap Hell!

He should be on a minimum base, laden with hefty incentives, such as games or snaps played. Based on his past, he probably wouldn’t earn $2 mill using that formula.

Davenport has the capability to be worth that

But for what he is today, he hasn't earned a quarter of that

If Davenport can manage that type of payday just thank him for the 3rd round comp pick

that 3rd rounder has a chance to contribute more than the 2 1sts we sank into drafting him.

We better not even think about paying him that.

Here’s the link to free agents and their expected market value. Davenport is $23.2 million. Sheldon Rankins is just $7.3 million. I think he would be a good pickup if you can sign him to a reasonable contract. He played well for the Jets and we need interior DL badly. If you can get Rankins for 3/$21 or 2/$14 I wouldn’t be against it. I’d try to bring Onyemata back as well. I think he would be accepting of a deal close to what Rankins would get. Brandon Graham is only expected to get $3 million a year and he has 11 sacks this year. He’s 34 but you could let Davenport walk and let some other team make a stupid mistake by signing him and we could bring Graham in as a bridge at DE until we can get young players in there. For the price of Davenport you could get Brandon Graham, Sheldon Rankins and Onyemata you do that in a heartbeat. I also understand letting both Davenport and Onyemata walk and replace them with guys on cheap rookie deals for the inevitable tank next year to get a high draft pick. Our DL would be on the older side but would be productive.
DE: Graham
DT: Onyemata
DT: Rankins
DE: Jordan

Wouldn’t sign anyone but no name guys and let’s see who can make a name for themselves. Winning any games this upcoming season should not be a priority. Tanking for a star QB should!

agree. With DA returning I am already throwing in the towel on 2023. I dont care what the division looks like. If we cant compete with the rest of the NFC once in the playoffs...even a punchers chance I would rather attempt to rebuild a contender vs fight for a virtual guaranteed first round exit that prolongs the inevitable.

Our cap situation is atrocious. Let everyone walk that may factor into the comp pick formula.

retain anyone with a reasonable asking price.

no. 1 step for life saving is to stop the bleeding. Our cap situation needs to be remedied. pushing all these cap hits to future years is what it is. We all wanted Drew to go out a winner and had Goodell/NFL not screwed us soo hard in 2018 he would have.

Now we have to pay the price. This will be similar to what happened in 2014 after our last stretch of attempted championship runs till that team ran its course.

Saints need to be in the market for draft picks and rebuild most of the roster through rookie contracts. Sean is our best chip this offseason to do that.

Loomis needs to work on contracts to come up with an exact plan to shed all this dead salary within the next two years and with whatever contracts of value manipulate them to make those players more enticing to trades without kamikazing our cap hits.

The most overhyped overpaid, always hurt defensive lineman in the league. He’s worth league minimum at best.

This shows how completely BROKEN that the "Market Value Estimator" is. The dude had a half a sack last year. A HALF A SACK!!
