I started way early as well. Like Pee Wee. Never a problem.
Here in my little corner of Houston, they start at 5. I said no since the kiddo had only been walking upright for about 4 years but gave in the next year. My son played all through Pee Wee and Middle School. He is now the starting RT on his Freshman HS team. Only drawback to starting that young is the kids that mature quicker can light up the smaller tykes but the hits are usually mild and harmless. Never saw much more than a broken arm.
Starting the year before middle in older tackle leagues is probably best. My kid and his bros that had the experience coming into middle school had field days with the kids with no prior experience.

I'd prolly wait till 6th grade. Most kids that play pee wee then go to Junior High quit and don't wait to quit till high school like most others

I have never understood kids playing tackle football before middle school. Its just little kids running into one another, you arent really developing many fundamentals at the age of 7.

I beg to differ....kids that start playing young are learning (or have the opportunity to learn) the fundamentals of football. Blocking, tackling, X's and O's. It's pretty enjoyable to talk to the kids about the nuances of football after they've been learning fundamentals for a couple year.
The biggest advantage I see is working to instill that aggressiveness needed to be a good football player. It usually takes longer with kids that are only-children or the oldest in their family. It's usually a big culture shock to the first year players when we go play an inner-city team that has no problem knocking the snot out of complete strangers.
Being part of youth football makes me wonder how much better of a ball player i could have been if i had the chance to start at a younger age than 8th grade

Honestly, probably not a lot.

Depends on the kid in question. A good friend of mine has a brother three years younger than us. All he had done was play flag football in middle school, soccer and tennis his first three years of high school. Goes out for the football team as a senior and was the defensive MVP for the state in 2A.
Granted he might be the best natural athlete I have ever personally known. He also had the second fastest 100m time in Metro New Orleans his senior year.

Brees's children and grandchildren will inherit such an abundance of wealth that none of them will have need of money.

Around the time of the Doobie Brothers first album.

First year they measured meters instead of yards.

I understand football football is a dangerous game. But hell life is dangerous.! I won't shield my future kids from the game that I have loved playing/ watching my whole life. If they want to play. So be it. I will support them 100%. I will make sure I teach them proper technique and fundamentals. If there becomes a point where his health is at serious risk. Then ill pull him. But majority of football players never suffer a severe head injury that we are so scared of.

You couldn't be more wrong. They work on fundamentals at every practice

I completely agree. Our school plays up all the time because they lack dept or the JV kids is better than the high schoolers. Even though my son is a big kid I am not gonna let him play up.
