Brees won't allow boys to play football at a young age

I think its good sound parenting but a lot of kids who could have developed the ability to play the sport may never get the chance.

As far as I know, selling insurance hasn't been known to shorten your life expectancy by decades... or does it?

I agree with him as this was something I thought about the other day with any of my future kids. Kids are constantly developing at those young ages that I don't think i'd let them play until sometime in middle school just so that if they really do want to play the sport they have the chance to before HS.
At the very least I would want to show/demonstrate him the game before throwing him out there on the field as I do remember playing tackle in elem. school but receiving no injuries other then a sprain and bruises.

He played flag football until high school. Turned out okay.

If you let your boy play at the age of 13, but not 8-12... what real studies are out there that shows the real dangers between this young age group?

I think that it more so becomes a decision that the kid is personally making when he is 13 as opposed to maybe being pushed into it when he is younger. Maybe that is weak, but I think that is the idea.

Honestly don't believe this statement is far off. I'd say the majority of NFL players are already in this category. Either that or they have ties to the NFL somehow (Dad, Cousin, etc played football previously).

13 year olds don't know shite about shite. Decisions they make are about whether they enjoy it or not, not a pro con risk evaluation spread sheet.

Yeah, that's why I said it's kind of weak. But a 13 year old will at least know more about what he wants than an 8 year old at any rate.

It is safer when they are younger than when they are older.
4th graders really are not going to hurt each other. They have pads and helmets on and they do not run fast enough, are not big enough, and do not hit hard enough. Junior High is when you need to start worrying because some kids go through growth spurts faster than others.
I would not want my 8th grade son getting trucked by Dylan Moses. That just isn't fair.

I didn't start playing tackle football until 8th grade.
It took me a while to learn technique, how to tackle correctly, and Id literally try to hit people as hard as I could with my head. I had a concussion my freshmen year because of that. Took a while to learn how to properly hit, but I wish I would've learned that well before high school.
