I like this move for the intangibles more than anything. Great locker room guy, and he's tight with Brees. Hopefully it was cheap.

Good. He had a surprisingly good year in 2017

Like it for the locker room

Don't know if he makes the roster, though, just to be honest. I don't see us carrying 4 TEs.

Fleener
Hill
Hooman

Watson is more valuable than Hill and Hooman, but not at 37. Need Hooman because he's really the only blocking TE we have.

Wonder if it makes TE less of a priority early in the draft

Great Christian man. Need more like him in the locker room.

While I love Watson the person I don’t really like the move especially if we are keeping Fleener. We now have two roster spots for tight ends who have no chance of being a game changer at the position. I would have really liked to see ya scout the hell out of the mid rounds and find someone who has a chance to be better than both of these two.

or more since we want Watson to groom someone.

And 2 years off the knee injury. Smart and savvy move by the Saints

Its a 1 year deal worth probably very little. Doesn't preclude us from drafting a TE, but it goes with the typical Saints theme of bringing in Vets to fill all holes and allowing themselves to go BPA in draft.

I expect a WR of some sort and possibly a low-level pass rusher (Ealy?) of some sort next.

I think they'll do that anyway, but they don't want to box themselves into having to draft any one position

Signing Watson doesn't mean we don't also look for one in the draft. It just means we don't need to look for one.

This gives us the option to go BPA, and if it happens to be TE then so be it.

I still don't see us cutting Fleener this year since we had our chance earlier but instead guaranteed him another $3 mil. Next year he's definitely getting the axe unless he finally shows out big time.

Between Hill and Hooman it's a tough call who they'd cut. Hooman is the better blocker and can play FB. Hill is a slightly better receiver and plays a ton of special teams.

But if we also draft a TE I think they both get the axe. Hill had his shot last year to prove it after Fleener went down but flopped. He was also unable to overtake Watson in 2015 when nearly everyone thought Watson was an afterthought.

Curious to see if this is vet minimum or somewhere in the $2-3 mil range.
