If penning can't do guard, the best bet might be to shift fuaga to LG and banks at LT.

Leaving the other 3 starters in their current roles

Penning at RT might still be better than Radunz at LG. That's the general question to have in mind.

Nailed it. We’ll either see:

Fuaga, Banks, McCoy, Ruiz, Penning
or
Banks, Radunz, McCoy, Ruiz, Fuaga

Second option is the long term tackle setup.

He can’t do tackle either if you care about given your rookie QB a chance in the pocket

If it was me, I would try Trevor Penning at left guard for the season.

That way if he pans out, they can resign him for considerably less than what they would pay for a tackle position. Meanwhile move Fuaga over the right tackle and Banks at left tackle

Do we know yet where Banks will play and how it will affect the rest of the line?

Majority of the O-line sucks so adding Banks should improve the line.

The amount of investment we have made now in the OL it better turn out to be one of the best in the league and AK should have an All pro year.

LG - Radunz
This guy keeps getting overlooked. We have 6 guys for 5 spots. They'll figure something out.

They turned down Penning's 5th yr option and drafted his replacement. Would make no sense to fit the guys they do believe in for the future around him. If he can't adjust to guard then to the bench with him.

not when your 5th best olineman played RT last year and seemed to make pretty decent strides. I'm not confident in how Penning can transition to LG.

I have a hard time believing they picked banks thinking that penning is the rt of the future.

i would just say that all we need to worry about is what is best for this year 1 at this time. Radunz is only signed for 1 yr. Penning is on last yr of his deal. We need to find a way to put the best 5 on the field. Simple as that.

It's easier to find a player at guard than it is to find a starting tackle.

It will be interesting to see what they do though. I just think penning is probably going to be your swing tackle.

Penning “got better” by giving up the league’s most pressure. We drafted an injury prone QB whose completion percentage drops 30 points when pressured. All while we drafted OTs with back to back first round picks the last two drafts

What’s that mean? Saints start penning at tackle

Not really going to over think this. Fuaga was a stud RT. Banks a stud LT. We have our starting C and RG.
That leaves a battle for LG in camp.

If he can’t play guard he’s the backup RT…if the Saints decide to keep him.

I think the Saints will try and run the hell out the ball and try to keep the defense off the field and shorten the game.

I'm not comparing the Eagles talent to the Saints, but Moore dialed it up in the run game so much last year. I think he'll try and want to keep doing that. It won't yield the same results because this is a rebuilding team but from a coaching standpoint you have try and put your players in the best position to win/compete.

you can still take your shots down the field with the WR's we have but it will probably be the Kamara/Neal show. I would say Miller, but he hasn't proven himself to be reliable fair or not.

Like every genius in here when discussing o-linemen: he’s not a true tackle so he’ll probably end up at guard. That’s his natural position.

Signed- the really smart football guys on here who watch a lot of football.

I think this is what will happen. They did not invest so much into Fuaga or Banks to play Guard and they didn't want Penning's 5th year.

If all goes to plan Banks and Fuaga are our Tackles for the next 10 years.

McCoy obviously starts at Center (until he gets hurt again which happens every year)

Ruiz starts again at RG.

LG will be a training camp battle between Radunz, Penning, Hergel, Clapp and Saldivari with one or more getting cut.

That would leave us with backups of Young, Ezirim, and Ball in addition to who loses the LG competition.

For what its worth, Radunz and Saldivari are listed as O/L because they can play multiple positions. The old staff was high on Saldivari last year, but he was struggling with injuries during most of it. The new staff picked Radunz as a free agent signing, so there is probably something to that signing. He must have a fan on the staff.

If Penning can not adapt to LG and win that spot, he will likely only be a swing tackle or jumbo package tackle and he will be off the team next year.

If I was GM, Penning would be trade bait but I don't know if there is anybody that would want him. However, I would continue to try to move him if possible and get anything of value like extra picks next year.

As soon as the Oline has it's first multi game injury, which happens every year for the Saints, the whole damn thing will get shook up depending on who gets hurt.

If he can't win the LG spot he's in trouble to make the 53.
I want to see how Hergal looks at guard in camp.
