Per Jeremy Fowler, Asante Samuel Jr., one of the top free agent corners in this year's class, is waiting to sign with a new team after undergoing neck surgery in April. Samuel has a check-up in early July, after which he will reconvene with several interested teams.

Liked him out of college but I thought he’s more of a zone corner.

played for Staley before in L.A.

undersized but scrappy.

35 pass breakups in 43 starts.

could play inside or outside.

but..... undersized and coming off a neck surgery!

might be a hold your nose and sign anyway?

vet minimum with bonuses im ok with.

If we really have cap space, some deals need to be worked to pull money back in this year and free up the next 2.

Completely fine with a 1 year deal here. He’s a solid player

Good grief no.

No more of these “post major surgery hope it all turns out ok” guys.

Someone will sign him. We need DBs and bringing in a solid player familiar with Staley's scheme makes sense.

For contenders yes, we’ll have to overpay to get him.

Nice.

Surprised he doesn't have a job yet.

Obviously is a staley draft pick.

Staley runs that matchup zone like Saban became famous for.

Our corner depth is questionable so getting an experienced vet at a position that seems to stay snake bitten for us and wants depth anyway is a good call.

Hopefully McKinstry takes a leap and the rookie pans out, but having a more sure guy in the mix is vital.

This. He can't be expecting a multi-year deal coming off of neck surgery. Give him a Chase Young-type 1 year prove-it deal. I don't want the Saints signing anyone to a multi-year deal right now. Let the new staff figure out what they have on the current roster first.

I expect he'll be much better this year especially with the scheme change.
