2 teams have already reached out to Payton to coach this year.

He’s not interested this year of course, but those draft picks will be rolling in sooner or later….

“I don’t think i’m finished coaching. But I was excited to get two or three calls from people in the TV industry.”
This dude keeps hammering home that he isn't done coaching, just to get everyone ready for it.
I do think the compensation will be less than everyone thinks. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Let's say we absolutely blew chunks this year.
Landed stroud or young.
Does he come back to us?

Said in another thread, Dallas can have him for 2 1sts, Lamb & Zach Martin

Gruden was traded for 2 1sts, 2 2nds, and 8 million dollars back in 2002.
Gruden didn't have the resume Payton does at the time.
I don't see why we would take anything less than that.

I get that.
He also has a great relationship with gayle and loomis.
They won't fit over it.
I'd be absolutely shocked if the saints get what gruden got.

Please this is business, not personal. The Gruden offer should be the starting point for negotiations for Payton. Hell, that offer was 20 years ago so I can easily argue that the starting point should be higher given that Payton is a much, much better coach than Gruden. I would be highly disappointed if the Saints doesn't use this to pull in a bunch of assets to put place the team in a better position talent wise.

I think he coaches this upcoming season for the cowboys. Once saints and cowboys agree on compensation all the firing and hiring will move rapidly

It will be, because the Saints love Sean and won't want to screw him wherever he lands, or stop him from going somewhere he wants to because they won't give us compensation

Prescott really isn't even all that good, Winston is just as good imo.

Even if he goes on to coach another team, good for him. He was here for a long time.

Anyone thinking we will get multiple first round picks is extremely naive. They will not hold him hostage. Expect some melts here when we get a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if the Saints just released him.

Yep. I expect a deal similar to the Arians one - a 5th round pick.
I think Payton's value is more like 2 or 3 firsts, probably more, but it's unlikely we get that. I think under different circumstances, like if he wasn't taking a year off but just decided to step away from the Saints and go elsewhere, it would happen that way. I don't see them screwing him or playing hardball in 1-2 years when we have a new coach anyway and he's the best coach in the history of the franchise by a mile.

And that was going from the afc to the nfc. Should be more if it’s a team we in direct competition with for the playoffs.

And y'all still saying we are overvaluing what we could get for him.
And this doesn't even include Dallas.
Saints absolutely can get serious comp for him.
Freaking idiots trying to compare this to Arians. They had their coach. Payton just up and left the Saints with 3 freaking years left. They absolutely will get valid comp for him. They aren't running a charity.

The melts are going to really intense.
I hope I’m way off.

Sean is screwing the Saints. They absolutely will get proper comp.
If he takes off one year only to return to another team then they are getting proper compensation. Pretty sure they want to win and set themselves up to be in a better position to do so. I really don't understand you people.
Getting proper value is not "screwing Sean" when HE is the one who left them in this position. He would more than understand them wanting to do what is best for the team.
Good grief.
