The Gruden offer for reference
With the exception of the 8 Million number, the relative values of a coach to draft pick locations haven't really changed over time.
That is where any argument about better numbers come from.
The reverse to that is to argue that the Buccaneers overpaid for Gruden.
I hope we get that but would not be surprised iw we got less than that.

Gruden didn't have the resume Payton does at the time.

The Saints organization had no problem going to arbitration when Jimmy's contract came up related to the franchise tag (TE or WR). It's business. The organization should not roll over if Payton wants and takes another job. I would say 2 first round picks as the starting point.

Like the OP stated, The Saints are not in a position to be charitable. We just lost a top 5 coach in the NFL and we should just take a 5th rounder cause..you know...Sean is a really nice guy ?
If Gayle wants to be charitable, then she should give millions to various churches and outreach programs. This is the NFL, your job is to win games and winning games gets you the SB championship.
That's the goal or should be. Get what you can for Sean because I doubt I will live long enough (54) to ever witness this organization with a coach like Sean Payton ever again.

By the point that this happens, the Saints will have moved on with a new coach. He is the winningest coach in the history of the team and has a family-like relationship with everyone important in the building. You really think they're going to force any team that takes him to give us a boatload of capital and hamstring their ability to succeed with him? And risk spoiling your franchises relationship with their most beloved and successful coach of all time?

If he goes to Dallas, he won’t have near the control he had with New Orleans on personnel decisions. Dallas is in a better market and a more desirable place to live for sure, but he won’t have much control there.

I disagree, regardless of his relationship with Gayle and Loomis this is a business. Im sure if Drew asked for a trade 5 years ago when he was still decent Gayle and Loomis wouldnt have let him go without a good compensation. This is the same as that. Now, they'll let him choose and it might now be best deal but it'll be a good deal.

Getting proper value is not "screwing Sean" when HE is the one who left them in this position. He would more than understand them wanting to do what is best for the team.
Good grief.
I completely agree with you. It makes you wonder how some of these people on here negotiate their own salary packages. Based on the posts I'm reading on here on the topic with negotiating fair market value for Sean Payton, many people probably sell themselves short and just take whatever the company wants to give them.

Loomis' kids works for the Dallas Cowboys and the other for the Chicago Bears. The new wife did not like New Orleans anymore and COVID brought about new lifestyle changes for him.

It won't be, because Sean loves the Saints and won't want to screw them over any further after leaving by raping them in a trade, and he'll see it as a personal point of pride to be traded for more assets than his ol' buddy Gruden.
