let’s go ahead and make the point clear though that the reason people want to know is that they want to know if/when zion will play again this year. It’s not that people are just nosy and want/need to know about a family issue

it goes with the territory

if this was the offseason we wouldn’t be speculating

They dont even really need or want to know WHY he is missing time. They just want an update on the timetable.

Like a "Zion is expected to return to the bubble on ____" or even "At this point, Zion and the Pels are hopeful that he will return by ____"

I dont really need to know who or what or why.

let’s just be honest here.
the season was over, this whole bubble thing is a cobbled together made for TV Hail Mary to salvage league revenues. If it were not for the money they’d not be playing.

compared to a real NBA playoff tournament this is an autistic chimpanzee. Whatever the issue is, you can’t compare it to a similar issue that might have happened in an april playoff chase. The stakes just aren’t there.

you know it, I know it, the league knows it and most importantly the players know it

You've said this before. It's just as meaningless a statement as the previous time you said it. The NBA wouldn't exist except to make money for the owners and players. They wouldn't play any year, except for the money.

We get that you don't really think much of the bubble tournament. That's fine. You don't really have to spam the board with those feelings, though.

The flip side is, outside of stuff like the Zion thing, this may be the most pure chance to see who the best team really is. All conditions are equal. Teams have had 5 months to get healthy. I’m embracing what’s coming. It’s unique. It’s too bad they didn’t test out 1-16, not for the Pels sake, but just to embrace the opportunity and sell this the right way.

You’re right imo in them trying to sell this like the normal playoffs. There’s no way these guys are going to half arse it though. It’s just not who they are when they step on the court.

I have resigned myself to the fact that Zion will probably miss just enough games that we are mathematically eliminated by the time he makes it back through quarantine. God does not let the Pelicans have nice things.

Honestly surprised the league hasn't figured out a way to stall for Zion, considering the amount of trouble they went through to make sure he was a part of this bubble to begin with

I think the only way he is not back in time is if he tests positive.

No way he misses this opportunity.

It really depends on what is going on, how much workout he is getting in while he is gone, and if he is being tested daily.

IF he is testing daily and if he is getting workouts in, he would need to be back around the 23rd to play in the first game.

That would be 4 days of quarantine plus 2-3 days of working out with the team. He's not going to get out of the hotel room and immediately start playing.

Ideal scenario is that he is back today or tomorrow and we know he can participate in an actual scrimmage.

But he's got to do what's best for he and his family.

The silence is what scares me. Common sense tells them (Management) the fan base is waiting for word on Zion. Them knowing this, I would assume, once they know something they will say it so the tension with fans can settle.

The fact They haven't said anything yet, makes me think , it will not be this week he returns.

Fingers crossed I am wrong and he is in route back to Disney World now!

The longer that this goes on, the more likely that he needs conditioning time when he gets back.

Remember when Favors's mom died? He was away from the team for two weeks, and then it took him two weeks to get back in shape to play.

If he’s not back by first game, I don’t think he’ll be back this season.

I doubt anyone thought Favors would take as long as he did. Even if the plan is to return in time for the Utah game, it's just a fluid situation and there is no benefit to committing to a timeline that could easily change.

People don't like the lack of information, but they hate being told wrong information. We probably won't hear he's coming back until he's actually on his way back to the bubble.

Yeah we saw this with the Zion injury situation. They threw out a timeline early on. He didn't meet it and people flipped out. Then they refused to give another definite timeline and kept everything vague and fluid and people again flipped out.

Kushner again commenting today on how truly unusual it is to have such silence on an extremely high profile player being absent.

quote:

Zion deserves privacy around a family issue. And he's been granted it by everyone thus far, something that's truly laudable in this thirsty media climate.

But, the complete public silence around this, now five days after he's left the NBA bubble, is genuinely shocking.

The bubble adds an accelerating and unique element to this.

Because the consistency of COVID testing he's receiving away from Disney will have direct impact on his availability to play in games starting 10 days from now.

And no one is saying anything. Such strange circumstances

Wonder if they are not saying anything because they know the season will be canceled anyway. Somehow the story will be Zion has Covid and was rushed to ER.

This was the deal when they agreed to not charge him for accepting money at DUKE
