Fine, but just note that is a different argument and backtracking from your initial argument that he was not "all that good" even when healthy. Now you're saying he's not healthy enough, different argument.

The question would still stand if you don't think he's all that good when healthy, still wondering what he'd need to do if 24/4/6 efficiently taking the care of the ball well(despite what people say, they're factually wrong) I'm just trying to understand what #s would mean he's pretty good.

Well, that's a function of being forced into the #1 role with our best 2 players hurt.

If your argument is CJ isn't good enough to be our #1, I don't think anyone will disagree with you.

Can we admit that CJ would be a far better and more consistent player for us in a different role, ie off-ball as opposed to on ball?

Yes, certainly.

I'm fine with the trade. I don't understand the extension.

They aren't excuses. This team is a shite show because without Zion apparently everybody is being asked to play above their heads. I'm not going to say CJ is a bad fit because he's a bad #1. You didn't bring him in here to be #1. He's supposed to be #3 and #2 in spot duty. BI is the big disappointment to me. He's not supposed to be a #2, he's supposed to be a #1b, and he just hasn't done it.

This is without question true.

BI has been a totally massive disappointment.

He's been playing injured for weeks. If he sits until he's fully healed everyone would be screaming that he would be playing. So which is it - should be be playing injured or in street clothes?

When you realize that pro sports are rigged, it’s quite easy to break away and turn it off.

Shut up blaming CJ, dude was brought in to be a 3rd option but thanks to our 2 star players being injury prone he has been the number 1 option for most of the year getting teams best defenders and teams game planning to stop him. At least he is playing through his injury what so many wanted BI and Zion to do.

I see so many topics on here putting blame on every expect for the dude that deserves the Lion share and that is Zion. No body was complaining about CJ when he was dropping 11 3's playing in a role he was brought in here to do because it was one of the few times Zion actually played basketball.

I’m not happy with the extension but CJ is still a high caliber NBA player (most of the time) and no one else wanted to come here by choice. (We do have to remember that)

With that being said… I’m worried his commitment to being here will hurt our willingness to put the right guys around BI and Zion. If we get a chance to trade CJ for SGA, Jalen Brown, etccc we should do it immediately. I’m worried our commitment to him with the extension will hinder those decisions.

My only issue is when CJ is trying to dribble the air out of the ball. If he didn't waste so much shot clock he would be so much better. Every team in the league knows moving the ball is more effective than ISO ball, well every team other than the Pels.

If its affecting him so much that he is as bad as he has been, maybe he shouldn't play.

But he is, so he gets judged.

This board can't have it both ways. There's been multiple threads about Zion needing to pull through a hamstring injury and play injured (Which is laughable). Yet here we are trashing CJ because he isn't playing up to standard... because he is injured.

BI is fine, what is not fine is the scheme we run around him. He is always facing a double team and we rarely run plays to take advantage of the 4-3 OR to get him 1-1.

IMO a huge part of that is the poor shooting…the players aren’t dumb and they know much of the team isn’t reliable on open jumpers, so the ball is sticking with the ball dominant guys trying to find a shot for themselves. When guys were making shots early in the season the team’s ball movement was regularly praised, but that has gone away along with their ability to hit shots.

And to answer the original post, yes, I still believe in CJ and like him running point on D because I really don’t want to play him as an undersized SG against some of the dudes in the league, and the Pels have several players that can initiate the offense (it’s the finishing a play part that is a struggle). It would be nice to have some better interior D behind him in case he gets picked or gives up a drive, but we know that issue already.

Several have said it, CJ is a very good player and is likely slightly overpaid, and we will see if that turns into significantly overpaid as the contract ages. At the moment he is hurt and playing decent, but I appreciate that he is playing and leading. He is a great #2/3 when he is healthy and fills a badly needed role when the team is healthy.
