Dudes a chucker. Volume scorer, bad defense. Not a championship piece.

I do not, personally.

I was happy for his veteran leadership, but he is not it for me.

*Maybe* if we moved Herb to the bench and had a true PG next to him.

I have not been particularly impressed with him as a Pelican.

I think the contract we gave him is going to haunt us.

CJ driving the tank. I need to bump my old threads.

99% of you were completely wrong about him

I’m indifferent. I just don’t see griff trying to trade him.

David Griffin needs to go. I don’t trust him anymore with any sort of major decision for this team

Also indifferent.

I think he’s a great guy and has talent and for us it’s great to have a ‘name’ player around the league with us.
He can contribute.

He is infuriating with his turnovers and passing sometimes. Weak on D.
I guess that’s what’s makes him good to great rather than great to amazing…

Probably would shine more as the 3rd option as he was meant to be…but unfortunately we never get to see him in that roll.

When healthy? Stop

Just like every other Pel, CJ has been baptized as constantly injured. He was injured earlier in the season, shot terribly. When he was healthy for 30 games, he played just like he did last season for us when every last one of us loved him. Now he's hurt again with the brace and playing like shite.

From Dec to late Feb when healthy, CJ was 24/4/6 on 46% and 42.4% from 3. If that isn't impressive, we may need to readjust expectations.

But yes, he has been hurt twice this season, and can't shoot for shite with both injuries on his shooting hand.

If your argument is he can't stay healthy, ok. If your argument is when healthy, you're not impressed or he's driving the tank, that's quite silly.

And you're a fricking idiot. His shooting thumb is hurt and may need surgery but he's gutting it out because he's still a better shooter than what we have.

but if you believe that, then your issue is not with CJ at all, or shouldn't be.

Is he playing?

Then his play matters. I don't care about the excuses.

If its affecting him so much that he is as bad as he has been, maybe he shouldn't play.

But he is, so he gets judged.

My biggest gripe has always been the extension. I hated it from day 1.

Ok, but that's just lazy thinking.

He was hurt, he played bad. He wasn't hurt, he played really well. He's hurt now, he's playing bad. To ignore that is just silly, and as I said, lazy thinking.

You've also complained about injured guys not playing. Just seems way too emotional. You can't have both, complaining about guys being out and not playing through injuries and now complaining that a guy is trying to play through an injury.

So that's the thing now, we judge with no context? Why would you do that? Seems silly.

My personal, subjective opinion is, I just don't think he is all that good, healthy or unhealthy. Is that ok?

I think he is pretty good. He's paid like he's VERY good.

That's my issue. He's a tier below All Star level. Kind of like Ingram. But both guys are paid like stars.

That kills teams. He's in that no-man's land of guys like Dejounte Murray, Tyler Herro, Lavine, etc. Can be elite on a given night but not consistent for whatever reason and tying up big money in them is a bad idea.

Just curious, what do you expect out of him when healthy?

I'm just trying to understand how an efficient 24/4/6 without many turnovers would make you think he's not all that good. If that isn't "all that good" then what would CJ have to do for you to think that he's pretty good?

Have my eyes tell me he is playing well, consistently, for an entire season, 65+ games.

he should also be playing SG not PG. Griffin needs to correct that this offseason, and possibly trade Herb to save Willie from himself.

Change his game and raise his basketball IQ.

Too many low percentage, fast-break starting off balance, contested mid rangers and he's terrible playing for the last shot. Like rookie level bad.

He is certainly overpaid...sorta.

The issue is that is the going rate for a player of his level at that age. So if you want a player as good as CJ at that age, that's the price you pay.

The flip side is if you want a guy as good as CJ but that is 23, you're gonna pay a shite ton more. That guy was not available.

So I can get the argument that you felt we should not have traded for him, but then the question is, who is the realistic option that we actually could have gotten for Josh Hart and one 1st that was just as good. That is what can never be answered.

Seems like most teams that are good and/or win titles have a somewhat overpaid 3rd best player.

I don't want to argue back and forth.

Can we admit that CJ would be a far better and more consistent player for us in a different role, ie off-ball as opposed to on ball?
