We played without Zion for half the year and our worst streak of losses came when we lost Favors as well

Just take Jah off Memphis for half the year and see how much better than the Knicks they are

Plus as stated our schedule benefitted us down the stretch and Memphis would have had the chance to prove if they actually deserved that spot based on them having to hold onto it through legit competition.

Regardless of who got in 8-12, we're talking about the 8th seed here, and not an 8th seed that anyone thinks could get out of the 1st round.

What matters way more to the league is that no stars from any of the marquee teams get injured or sick during this. There will already be an * next to this champ, it will only get bigger if any of the top players get quarantined because someone at Taco Tuesday got Coronavirus.

So how does that change what he said?

The season doesn’t stop because you have an injury

We have 18 games left, with 15 of them against opponents with a losing record.

Memphis has 17 games left. they'll be favored in one of them, the Knicks. The rest are against playoff teams, with 4 against the Pels/Blazers/Spurs.

Memphis does not deserve to make the playoffs over the Pels, or Blazers, or Kings, or Spurs, at this moment.

No, but injury and schedule strength should easily provide enough context to say Memphis didn't "significantly outplay" New Orleans.

Now that doesn't mean a thing, but that was the point of contention in the string of replies.

It looks like 72 and 76 games are on the table.

Shams Charania @ShamsCharania 59m

The NBA sent a survey to its 30 GMs regarding options to restart the 2019-20 season, polling them on potential “Playoffs Plus” format, 72 or 76 regular season games, and more.

Full season was an option as well as play in tournament. Hopefully we wind up with a better solution than 70 games and screw the Pels.

Yeah it looks like they have a ton of options on the table. This one is intriguing:

quote:

“Playoffs Plus” play-in format options: Play-in tournament featuring bubble teams for 8th seed; play-in tournament for 7th and 8th seed; or group stage that replaces first round of playoffs and all participating in groups (each team plays two games against each group opponent and top two teams from each group advances to traditional second round).

TBH a World Cup style group stage in the first round with an expanded field is pretty interesting. Would be entertaining as hell.

Right, a first round tournament amongst challengers instead of the usual losses and sweeps you get will definitely make it more watchable, probably for fans of all teams.

Analysis is a value judgement.

Analysis requires(at least it should) analyzing.

And analyzing should involve contextualizing.

And that contextualizing should at least attempt to be impartially administered.

And contextualizing in this instance should involve pretty commonly understood things like SoS, head to head matchups, and acts of god.

When taking those things into account it is hard to draw the conclusion that the Grizzlies “significantly” outplayed the Pelicans. And given those pieces of context don’t seem to be anywhere in Woj’s analysis, I think it’s fair to conclude the analysis is poor or lacking.

Not all schedules are equal and that is a fact. You can’t punish the pelicans for having played one of the toughest schedules to date, while Memphis has played one of the easiest.

I still think they just need to suck it up and cancel the season and focus on the next. Do some math and have multiple lotteries to give teams fair shots at good draft choices. Like traditional lotto for the worst records for the top 14 picks. The 16 playoff teams have two lotteries. Top 8 records and next 8 records. Top 8 have lottery for picks 23-30 and the next 8 have lottery for picks 15-22.

Way too much money lost. The NBA cares about revenue more than anything, and having all of this in a centralized location is doable.

So assuming the league makes everyone play until they hit 70 games, we would have to go 4-1 or better and Memphis would have to lose out.

another thing I haven’t seen mentioned and would like to ask about: how is it determined whom we’d play if we’re just getting to 70? Will it be random? Will it be whom we would have played? Will it be MEM, POR, SA, SAC, PHX?

None of that matters when it comes to the playoffs

Teams with arse records shouldn't be rewarded over teams with better records. Idc if Memphis did have a shite schedule. The Pels lost to some arse teams this year...super arse teams. Had the worst losing streak in the history of the team. The schedule wasn't that damn hard.

That being said I do agree with scrapping this season. This is gonna be a shite show just you wait.
