The only way to truly determine who deserves the playoff spots is to finish the season.

Woj is good at what he does generally. But, in this time of low sports information, he is fishing for clicks!!

Those two blowout beatdowns and their baby food soft schedule say otherwise.

It sucks that we look like we’re going to be punished for having a brutal opening schedule and never getting to our soft part

Did he say this on his podcast? What was the context?

The context is he's selling what the league is giving him. The league needs to get to 70 games to qualify for TV money with the Regional Sports Networks. If they had played 70 before Corona instead of 65, I wouldn't be shocked if they would be looking at jumping straight into the playoffs with half the teams staying at home and not entering the bubble.

If that is the only reason, they should just schedule the non-playoff teams to play each other so that the playoff teams and seedings are not affected. Let those teams play their backup and 2-ways to meet the minimum. That way they do not risk injury to the key players just to meet the NBA's revenue goals.

well I hope the Pels send their G-league team to those 5 games, as does every other non-playoff team.

Wouldn't be saying that if Zion played the full year

Nelson has been pretty cautious with everyone. Remember when it looked like they were holding Favors back just because he hadn't played for a few weeks? I wouldn't be surprised if everyone on the Pels plays on a minutes restriction.

Why would a national reporter would be butthurt to the point he needs to shill for Memphis?

If they end the season now, the NBA doesn't get the TV money you are talking about but the Grizz get in obviously.

If they play the remainder of the schedule, it's "bad" for Memphis, good for the NBA ($), and gives the other West contenders a chance.

Then how do the playoff teams get to the 70 game regular season mark?

Why would the non playoff teams play each other to finish out the regular season and the playoff teams play each other to finish out the regular season, what's the advantage there?

Because, as the non-playoff teams have nothing to play for, they would not be forced to risk their players just to get the NBA TV money. Them playing backups would not affect the playoff teams if they were not playing them. The playoff teams, who have something to play for, would be playing starters and could not complain that a non-playoff team could have affected the standings by playing backups against another playoff team (thereby creating an advantage for those teams).

So assuming the league makes everyone play until they hit 70 games, we would have to go 4-1 or better and Memphis would have to lose out.

well, Memphis would be our 70th game, but that game would be Memphis' 71st game, so how the frick will that work out?
