And Goran Dragic could end up on the open market if the Heat need cap space,” wrote Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “He is another of those desired veteran point guards and has lots of fans in front offices, including in New Orleans and Dallas, where countryman [Luka] Doncic plays.”

Could be a cheaper way to get some of what you're looking to get in Lowry.

Any idea on the market rate being discussed for him?

It can’t be much. He’s on the verge of washed.

Here's Hollinger in The Athletic:
quote:
13. Goran Dragic, Heat (team option): $7,306,905
Miami has a team option for $18 million on Goran Dragic that it seems almost certain to decline unless it’s needed as a salary match in a trade. That in itself seems fairly unlikely, as the Heat can generate roughly $24 million in cap room by declining options on Dragic and Andre Iguodala and waiving the non-guaranteed Omer Yurtseven. (While we’re here: Raise your hand if you knew there was somebody named Omer Yurtseven on Miami’s roster.)
As for The Dragon, he’s 35 and suffered through a middling season after looking reborn in the 2020 bubble. At this point, he probably rates more as a plus-backup than a starter. Nevertheless, he should have a lot of interest at the MLE price point, especially since so many teams have access to their full midlevel this year.

we can do better than that.

Which concerns me when its reported we have a lot of "big fans."
I don't hate Dragic insomuch as being someone you bring in off the bench as part of a larger cultural resetting, but if we do what some desperate FO's have done historically, and see him as a plan B if we strike out and try and force him into a larger role he is no longer suitable for to try and force this "sweat equity," "Win now" stuff, it will be very concerning.

David Griffin and Kerr traded for Dragic on draft night when they were with the suns. Beno is also Slavic and one of Dragic’s buds. Don’t know if he’s going even be on staff though

I think he was searching for a house in the garden district last year.

I prefer dragon for cheap to Lowry for big money. Neither are the long term answer

This guy has been a baller his entire career. Sign him, and forget about Lowry.

Bingo
"Pelicans willing to let head coach Willie Green play point guard before doing anything for Rich Paul"

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

Would dragic cost more than 10 or 12 mil?
Posted on 7/27/21 at 10:04 pm to GOP_Tiger
This would be a stupid waste of valuable cap space. Last year it was evident he didn’t have the same legs to be a starting caliber player anymore and unless you plan to start Kira which you aren’t then it makes no sense. Dragon is a 24-26 min player now.
