Jake seems to think John Collins might be the guy we go get

Our boy Crewz has been throwing out the likely FO thought process as Collins is a good value/buy low because nobody wants him right now and he ends up being a much better main salary piece in a trade for a star like KD than Graham would be.

I can kind of talk myself into that except he would have to play really well here and rehab his value for that to be true. Atlanta has been trying to trade him for multiple years with no takers and our brilliant plan is to buy him cheap to be the main non draft asset going back in a KD trade? That seems like wishful thinking we aren't desperate enough for.

Pass.

I don’t want a commitment of that size to someone who is seen as a defensive liability and isn’t putting up enough offense to offset that.

MM said they had a deal lined up with Sac earlier in the year for Barnes and a 1st but they thought they could do better and now things have changed enough that teams are asking the Hawks to include a 1st in Collins trades.

At the very least Collins will cost you Jonas in the offseason because you can't afford to keep everyone and give raises to the people that need to get raises. So we'd be committing to small ball like that Houston team did several years back. That just seems like a risky path to go down.

Anyone watch the Hawks? Why is Collins, a young guy, getting worse every year?

Seems like they’ve kind of shoved him in a corner and said “ Let our guards do their thing”. Plus with Clint Capela his role defensively has dropped.

If we go for him I assume they like the idea of him being the long term center and if Zion is hurt have him and Larry as our front court. Especially for the end game when Willie takes out JV.

This year his shooting has dropped off from a hand injury

You can't have $85M invested in your two PF and two C's. It's stupid.
and John Collins isn't a 5.

I would have to assume our interest in him would have to be to flip him to another team, b/c nothing about him fits what we need.

$25 million for bad rebounding, declining player that has been on the block for years? What could go wrong?

Dylan Brooks is extremely annoying.

I've always hated him and his game for as long as I can remember. This year I started watching him on the defensive side of things and I must say, dudes pretty good.

Would absolutely hate seeing him heave up shots for my team, though.

He's got a punchable face, is very cocky and plays dirty imo

The problem is that Collins is too small to be a replacement for JV. He could be a replacement for Larry, but we don't want to replace Larry. One look at the Raptors will tell you how well it works in the NBA to play without a real center.

Well he's never been right on any of his predictions (especially on draft night), so we can pretty much rule out anything happening with Collins.

To say I was unimpressed with Collins last night would be an understatement.

Absolutely a hard pass on collins. We need to focus on a sharp shooter more than anything. Jax, Graham, Temple, and Billy are really the only ones I'd be willing to part with right now with picks for those 1 or 2 player to come in and make an impact. I really like what we have with everyone else.

Plus, how are we going to rehab his value when he has very likely an even smaller role here than he has in ATL?

That’s not a prediction from him. That’s an explanation of why he thinks Griff is interested in Collins. Because as we all seem to agree, he’s a bad target for #BasketballReasons

Collins is a bad fit in Atlanta.

The vision for him in New Orleans isn’t that hard to picture. He would fit into New Orleans culture seamlessly on and off court.

His addition would allow the team to play with more pace consistently. The emphasis on team rebounding would definitely increase.

I would still like to grab a shooter. A legitimate heater off the bench. Trent Jr looking like will remain in Toronto. The interest in Bones Hyland is an interesting development.

I’ve watched him in a few games recently and had the same take away .

However , I’m wondering if it’s how they use him . He just stands in the corner waiting for a pass on most offensive possessions. .

I remember him as a roller in the PNR and a cutter a few years ago when the hawks made a run and he looked like a good player.

If he comes here he’d have to be willing to do some dirty work and rebound to be useful on the court. Otherwise he’s just an outrageously expensive insurance policy for when Zion misses time .
