I haven't watched him much. Is he a more expensive/less athletic version of Larry Nance?

He’s not less athletic

One look at the Raptors will tell you how well it works in the NBA to play without a real center.
The Raptors are one of the worst passing teams in the NBA, and play like they don’t even know each other. I don’t know what has gone on in that locker room, but watching them this year can be painful. Lots of good individual plays and some horrid team basketball.

Our boy Crewz has been throwing out the likely FO thought process as Collins is a good value/buy low because nobody wants him right now and he ends up being a much better main salary piece in a trade for a star like KD than Graham would be.
I can kind of talk myself into that except he would have to play really well here and rehab his value for that to be true. Atlanta has been trying to trade him for multiple years with no takers and our brilliant plan is to buy him cheap to be the main non draft asset going back in a KD trade? That seems like wishful thinking we aren't desperate enough for.
That's a lot of money to be hoping he bounces back. If he doesn't it becomes even harder to move him and he has 75m left AFTER this year. To me its a ton of risk, you're going to need to burn a first to get off him if his value drops any lower

Anyone watch the Hawks? Why is Collins, a young guy, getting worse every year?
he completely forgot how to shoot, and he needs everything spoon fed to him. If he can't remember how to shoot then he's basically a 25m/yr lob threat and rebounder

This is the type of guys we need, we don’t need anymore “dribblers”

He will break out of the shooting slump once his finger/hand is fully healed. He’s a terrific rebounder and he can block shots, if/when he gets back to shooting 40% from 3 everyone is going to want him.

OK but where do the minutes come from?
Assuming we send out graham, jax, and temple. Those guys already dont play. Whose minutes are you taking to get him 20-25 minutes?

If we do try to get him it’s definitely a buy low/sell high opportunity Griff might think he can get with Collins. i kind of see the potential with this but understand why people are hesitant. I’d only want to give up our worst players and a very protected first for him.
Also the year he had great numbers was when he was playing a lot of center for the hawks. The team was worse but his numbers were at his best

Zion

Not as good defensively but a much more skilled offensive player. When healthy he's a solid 3 point shooter and can get his own shot

More of an offensive game
Less defensive game
Less intangibles and feel for the game, like the little things Larry does
He's basically a guy if you put him on a shitty team like Detroit did with Jerami Grant, John Collins can absolutely go out and avg 26 or 27ppg for a season on a shitty team, where as Larry could never do that.
But on a fully formed team like ours and the skillsets they bring, I'll take Nance. If we did zero power forward, then you'd want Collins over Nance likely.

Theres 3 front court guys he can take minutes from. Zion, Larry, and JV. Where are the minutes

There's no other way for it to make any sense...granted it still doesn't make sense even if you do get rid of one, but you get the point.

I'm not saying Willie hates JV, but in some ways I'm surprised he's still the starter most nights. I've already said if you get Collins and don't trade him this summer you probably have to trade JV, both for minutes and salary reasons.

Yeah i guess. I just think its an unnecessary risk
