Larry Coon's CBA FAQ is basically the CBA bible for us laymen. But sometimes it comes down to what the definition of Is is so to speak.
From question 42: LINK
From question 92: LINK
After reading this it seems a little unclear. Does this mean signing an offer sheet rules out a S&T completely? Or is the way this is worded mean signing an offer sheet with Team A means you can't be S&T to any team other than Team A?
From question 42: LINK
quote:
To summarize, a restricted free agent essentially has six options:
He can accept his prior team's qualifying offer, play for one season, and become a free agent again the following summer.
He can accept his prior team's maximum qualifying offer (if applicable, and if one has been submitted) and play under a long-term contract at the maximum salary.
He can negotiate a new contract with his prior team that is independent of the qualifying offer or maximum qualifying offer.
He can sign an offer sheet with another team through March 1, which his prior team is given the opportunity to match.
He can negotiate a sign-and-trade (see question number 92) if he has not signed an offer sheet with another team.
He can do nothing, but if he doesn't sign a qualifying offer, a contract, or an offer sheet for one year, his prior team can submit a new qualifying offer (or maximum qualifying offer), and the player becomes a restricted free agent again the following offseason.

Sign and trade is a specific thing and would be off table. A trade however appears to possibly still be in play with limitations

If EJ’s injury is serious and he’s out for all/most of next year, what do we do about his contract and/or draft rights? If we didnt even sign him to a two-way, would he just be lost in terms of draft rights in the following years?

If we did not sign him to a contract, then I believe that he would be a UFA next season. But, of course, we won't do that, because it would a poor way to treat him and would discourage others from wanting to come to New Orleans.
At the very worst, I think what could happen would be that we would wait until the end of the season to sign him to a regular NBA contract. That way, he wouldn't take up a roster spot all season, but he'd still get his money and we'd still have him back for next season.

Yeah, if he's going to be out a while I think they give him the 2 way, which is $500k and will help him out during the year, and then probably give him the standard deal they've been giving the other players at the end of the year so he gets some more money. Assuming he'll be back to normal next year you just bring him back as a player you had a 1st round grade on that red shirted.

You can only end the year with 15 roster spots as well right? So by the end of the year, we’d need to open a roster spot open to convert EJ into a full contract? Or can two way deals carry over into the summer?

You’d need to open a spot, I just assumed by then we would have. Even if you cut Temple on the last day of the season.

Jonas is a better player than Turner, cheaper than Turner and locked in on that cheap contract for longer. Plus he's a better culture fit and better leader. With his improved three point shooting, it's not even a question in my mind. Jonas>Myles all day, every day.
The only thing Turner is clearly better at is rim protection, but we would be so much worse when it comes to rebounding that I'm not sure Turner even is a better fit anymore.

Yeah. Once they sign an offer sheet, the team can either match or let him walk. That's what Gordon did. Signing an offer sheet is usually not in the player's best interest in cases like these.

it’s a matter of semantics it seems. Cant have a sign and trade without an agreement on what the “sign” part means, and can’t agree on that without an offer from the receiving team.
actually “signing” the offer sheet is not needed, but the offer is made and then sets the trade in motion

Re pacers some are saying that the brogdon trade announcement today clears the need for physicals (in the IND-BOS trade) which might mean some ayton news today
ayton is free to negotiate contract terms with pacers anyway, so if they make a deal regardless of official offer sheet, things could get moving
frick the lakers especially if they get Irving

Notable Kevin Durant update from @wojespn : - Heat are "most determined" to land Kevin Durant - Heat, Suns will "need some help" from other teams to help facilitate Durant deal - No progress with Raptors for Durant because Scottie Barnes is a "non-starter" in trade negotiations

I really want to know what the Heat can do to make this happen, outside of trading Bam. They just don’t have anything to offer, and it is said that Brooklyn is valuing players over picks.
Herro isn’t getting it done.

jazz willing to trade mitchell
Posted on 7/12/22 at 4:46 pm to jprdbulldog20
Right but they are going to want picks for that too, they probably value him around the same as they valued Gobert. So even in some sort of 3 way deal with Miami, Utah, and Brooklyn there aren’t enough picks available to go to Utah/Brooklyn, not to mention someone has to take Simmons if Mitchell or Bam are going to Brooklyn. I just don’t see how this happens outside of some crazy 5/6 team mega-trade.
It’s a way more straight forward trade with the Suns, they have more picks and have some young talent too (Ayton, Bridges, etc…) even if they pieces need to be re-routed to other teams to bring in assets that Brooklyn wants.

Bobby Marks just tweeted that the Zion deal is essentially the same as the Embiid deal in regards to the exhibit 3 clause for prior injury, but there is also a games played criteria.
Not sure if games played reduces pay, or just reduces guaranteed money in the event that he is waived (obviously very unlikely).

@BobbyMarks42 The structure of the $193 million Zion Williamson extension is comparable to the 2017 contract that Joel Embiid signed in Philadelphia, league sources tell ESPN. The contract is fully guaranteed and has a prior injury clause along with criteria for games played
