Reports are also out claiming that the Lakers are not, in fact, actively trying to push for a Kyrie deal.

Comes off as being overly interested in a girl then trying to play it cool when she doesn’t seem to show mutual interest.

One of the leaks a few days ago that said something like "The Lakers are confident" about pursuing Kyrie made me laugh at the time because it felt like a Klutch leak that assumed they could bully the team into giving up 1sts.

Nets probably end up doing what I said they would, going into the season with both.

Or they will at least bluff that that is what they are going to do.

It doesn't seem/feel like there are any real suitors for Kyrie, so there's no point in settling for a trash deal just for the sake of doing it (especially if the Lakers aren't including picks).

And with KD, his value isn't going to go down if they hold onto him longer, so also no point in rushing a deal there.

The Nets hold the cards, and it appears they are aware of this

As long as KD is only OK with getting traded to PHO or MIA, then I can't see how a deal gets done before the season starts. If Durant says that he's OK with the Raptors and/or Pelicans, then I can see something happening, because that would at least put Phoenix into a bidding war.

Considering that the Nets didn’t particularly want Kyrie back, having him expire isn’t the worst thing that could happen to them.

Giving up on getting an actual return? That is worse. Trading Kyrie and Seth Curry for Russ, regardless of the number of picks, is worse than letting Kyrie walk.

I kind of forgot how loaded they are with everyone healthy. They could legitimately win it all. I think keeping it one more year might be the best plan..

“With everyone healthy” is a hell of a caveat with Harris still recovering from an ankle injury at $18m.

It really looks like Brooklyn has given up on trades for the time being and is just getting as ready as they can with the players that they can get who are still unsigned.

If this is the case, do the Pels wait until the deadline to make a move with Hayes and Graham and just waive Temple for EJ? Or, do they pivot and make another trade that maybe was on the back burner until all this shook out?

depends on whether or not EJ will take a 2-way deal to start the season

Worst comes to worst, buy out Temple or trade him and cash considerations to a team so they can buy him out.

I think Temple is on the Udonis Haslem trajectory for us. I think he will be with us till he retires and will move to the bench with Willy.

Don’t rule out the Jazz being involved.
Dealin’ Danny could make this a three team trade.
Mitchell to Brooklyn Ayton to Utah & Durant to Phoenix.

As great as a player he is, the expected return Brooklyn will get will be too much for him in year 16

Possibly. Problem is that he still has salary on the books and takes up a roster spot that we need.

If he retires, he forfeits his salary but I am not seeing where this comes off the cap.

Theoretically we could immediately make him part of the front office and still pay him, meaning he gets his money but it drops off the cap and we get the space back.

i assume that that is the pels' preferred plan of action (keep temple for leadership & 2-way EJ)

The Nets can't make that trade, because Mitchell is covered by the Designated Player Rule, and the Nets would have to get rid of Simmons before taking Mitchell.

Zach Lowe thinks it's a "no brainer" for Pels to send Ingram and a couple of picks for KD.

MM(I know) said pels will offer a "monster" package of young players and picks for KD but won't trade BI.

That would be the most short sided move by Griff that could easily blow up in his face. We sell out our entire future on the hope of maybe one single trip to championship instead of building a potential dynasty like what the Grizzlies are doing and the warriors and spurs did before them.
