Hell didn’t Paul George say just this season that the load management and using extra precautions in giving players extra weeks of rest after injuries was just causing more injuries? I think he also said that guys were getting hurt less when they practiced harder and more often

We've gone from 46 "iron men" in 2002-2003 down to just 10 this season.

Congrats to the 10 ‘22-‘23 NBA Iron Men!

20 years ago in ‘02-‘03 there were 46 players who played all 82

Load management is the stupidest term/idea in sports.

I hope people realize it's as dumb as that microfracture surgery that ruined so many players' careers 15 years ago.

Then the NBA should reduce the number of games played per season. Guys should regularly have 2 days off between games. Maybe 1 day off if they're in a home stand. NO b2b's!!! And who is the dumbass who came up with the idea of a b2b with travel?

I'm sure a reduced schedule would really reduce injuries and help to avoid load management.

But fewer games means less revenue. Neither the players nor the owners want to make less money.

Today.

I found it interesting that some of the articles about the local TV rights suggest the NBA might be fine combining local and national rights to a national partner(s). National coverage doesn't need 82 games from 30 teams to have enough inventory. If local rights are getting bundled and subsidized by the national deal, maybe you don't need as many games for the local teams either.

There are ticket sales to consider, but the more money they get from TV, the less money from ticket sales matter.

Agree completely. The NBA needs to reduce the number of games enough to do away with B2Bs.

This is so true about Zion.

Guy has to play to maintain his weight. We should penalize him for not making weigh ins with other means. I get the risk of injury, however sitting an asset isn’t worth it.

If we do one thing this off-season, I would really like to see us go in a different direction with the whole training staff. The Nelson era has been an absolute failure. It isn’t just Zion, it’s BI, Larry etc. it’s literally every injury the Pels have, and there are a lot of them.

I was happy when Nelson was hired. But he has failed repeatedly here. It is time to go in a different direction. Hopefully it will be someone who can get Zion, BI and the rest of the roster to buy in and be active participants in maintaining and improving their bodies.

It really makes me wonder how we fit Zion in, ultimately.

We were a top 2 seed in the West when he was playing ???

Do you believe that players should take pay cuts to match the revenue lost from less games played?

Yes but the NBA will never do this.

There should absolutely be a rule to allow teams to recouperate extreme cases.

They get a % of revenue, so they will get a pay cut if it happened without having to make any changes to the CBA.

Maybe to future contracts, but what about existing contracts?

If they cut it back 15-20 games, is Zion taking that % less? His contract is guaranteed a dollar amount. Did players take less the Covid or the next season (with less games)? I don't remember..

Part of the problem is that they took SVG's advice. Z and the Pels tried to expedite his healing to play in the ASG. He was originally expected back after the ASG.

The Pels probably bear some responsibility for the Zion era being a spectacular failure. But so does Zion for gaining copious amounts of weight every time he gets injured, which adds to his recovery and medical clearance time. You think he’d be a seasoned pro at this by now. But it gets worse every time.

It’s ride or die for at least a couple of years with Zion since his trade value is zero at this point. Of course, we are “riding” with a man who doesn’t care enough to get in shape and then once he inevitably gets hurt doesn’t care enough to stop fricking eating.

Sure, why not? An average bench player makes more money in 1 year than a lot of people make in their lifetime. A 15-20% pay cut would hardly even affect a player's lifestyle. Even after a pay cut, you aren't going to see players hanging out at a food bank. Their lifestyle would still be extremely comfortable and their income would still be way above most people. I mean, how much money do you need to live well?

Gotcha, certainly a fair point.
