To play basketball. Short clip of Stan on a mini-rant where he calls out the training staff and subtly points out that most of those 114 games came in one year when Stan was the coach. LINK

We still don't know if Zion is holding himself out, or if the team is holding him out because Zion hasn't done what they wanted, all leaks do keep pointing to conditioning. If Conditioning is the problem, Coach K says the path forward is to let him play, not hold him out until he does it your way.

SVG looks like a genius now. It’s wild. Of course he’s been hinting at all year.

Was his relationship with Ingram that bad? Sounds like Zion and Stan were better than what people thought.

And damn I’d love Coach K to be hired as a consultant

At this point, why not just try it? Being ultra conservative with his weight and health hasn't resulted in him playing even half of the possible games, so can it really get worse? Let's try it the other way, when he inevitably gets hurt again.

This has been pretty obvious since Day 1 w Zion.

The issue is, before he gets Into peak shape. He gets injured and then just starts the entire losing conditioning process over again. By the time he heals, from a torn meniscus, fractured foot, a hamstring, etc, he is 30 pounds heavier than when he last played, which makes it tough to make the call and play him.

The Pels probably bear some responsibility for the Zion era being a spectacular failure. But so does Zion for gaining copious amounts of weight every time he gets injured, which adds to his recovery and medical clearance time. You think he’d be a seasoned pro at this by now. But it gets worse every time.

It’s clear that SVG had a great plan for how to use and support Zion. Unfortunately, he couldn’t gel with most of the team. That’s a bit on him and others. This league doesn’t support hard nosed coaches, anymore. Maybe it should.

For Zion, it's been the only way. If he can't play, he's unwilling to even maintain his weight. Multiple times it has ballooned significantly very quickly.

Yeah that clearly was the issue in hindsight. It really makes me wonder how we fit Zion in, ultimately.

Zion doesn't have the fire Jordan had to be great. Not even close.

Stan also essentially said that it's hard to get Zion to do rehab and physical therapy.

He didn't use those words but that's what he meant.

I agree Zion isn't insane.

Plenty of non-insane guys have won NBA titles post-Jordan.

Exactly, and also this just pretty much sums it up that he doesn’t really like to do the things that professionals do lol.

I would do whatever was needed to make this happen. What? He plays less?

I'm pretty much resigned to the idea that the most likely ending to the Zion/Pels tenure will be a crash and burn type ending in the next 2 years.

Not saying it's a guarantee, but if I'm a betting man, that should be the betting favorite as to how it'll end.

If Zion is a Pelican in 2 years I would be stunned.

I've given up, I hope he proves us all wrong.

It'll be because he's a top 10 player or too hurt to be traded with his contract. There is no in between

Then get rid of him for what you can.

He doesn’t take anything seriously and he’s being paid like a superstar. 99% of players would kill to have the guys talent but he’s basically a 300 lb baby.

He doesn’t do the work to prevent injury and you’re saying he doesn’t like doing the work to recover from it.

And he ALWAYS gets injured.

Its not rocket science to see that it isn’t a sustainable situation and we’re essentially in limbo hoping something will change. It’s kind of insane really.

I don’t get worked up much over sports at this point but to have a guy doing windmills when he’s bitched out for months just rubbed me the wrong way.

The biggest issue are the the injuries he’s sustained this season. It’s hard yo stay conditioned with foot and hamstring injuries. They are just very sensitive to reinjury.

Van gundy won the injury lottery that one year. I think he had a hand injury or something minor like that.

“Just play”. For someone that has lower body injury is easy to say but doesn’t make a ton of sense. He “just plays” when he can

Did he? Ingram played the highest percent of games he's played in a season since his rookie year. I don't think Paul George or SVG are wrong about practicing harder keeping the body better conditioned and more injury resistant. It wasn't just luck and all NBA teams need to pay attention.

Whatever he did at Nike in Portland worked. If he's got an extended injury send him somewhere to rehab so he's in a more controlled environment and can live in a swimming pool all day.

There is a massive gap between staying in ideal game shape and not blowing up like a walrus every time you get hurt. There is Plenty that can be done between diet and tolerable exercise to prevent that kind of weight gain. When you’re making 9 figures you’re kinda expected to do that stuff.
