I agree. And if we do it then I'd also have lost faith in the FO. We aren't going to do it tho, especially after giving up the 1st on Graham.

Better: the answer is no. Besides ring chasers and John Collins there wasn't much leeway at that position. The best PF for the value and is still available would be Paul Millsap.

At 17 mil it may be an over pay but once again we need a PF and shooters and he checks both boxes. There also isn't any better options walking through that door and he does make us better.

Also its funny that some are whining about this and saying we suck but yet say they'd rather "wait on players after roster cuts" to sign

That's cool, Ball trade isn't completed yet, so change the terms and tell them you want 2 1st round picks to initiate the S&T

Bring him back homeee, plus it wouldn’t cost us a ton.

Give them a 1st 1-29 protected. If the Pels don't win the title it converts to 2 middle fingers

If Milsap came here he'd be angling to get out to a contender by New Years.

Don’t give them a fricking thing.
If they want to resign him then let them. They’d be deep in the tax if they did.
There is absolutely no reason to give them anything. If someone else wanted to sign him, they would have by now.

Don’t worry too much about saint fan. Seriously don’t even know why this guy is still on this board. Biggest pelican hater.

Not sure who you're mixing me up with but it's pretty funny that you're doing it

Unless there's no trade market because the contenders are waiting for his buyout.

its a short sighted move.

the contract becomes difficult to move and cripples any potential future moves, especially next year's FA.

he's a role player who would get paid above average starter money, ontop of that a 1st? nah. i will pass.

They don't want him back and he doesn't want to come back. There's no way they're getting any sort of significant compensation for him. Them wanting a first <> us wanting to give up a first.

No one is giving Chicago a 1st, especially taking his contract at 17 mil. Even Chicago can't really afford him for that price. The only reason a 1st would be offered is if its a Graham type deal and he gets less for Chicago to not match. Still really wouldn't be worth it unless it was 10-12 mil and we had a set plan to move him for a larger asset in the near future.

I really have trouble with more than $14-15 million for Markkanen, but I just noticed something interesting.

Lauri had a negative point differential when on the court with Coby White last season, but when he shared the floor with Satoransky, the team outscored opponents by 6.9 points per 100 possessions. Lineups with Satoransky and Markkanen on the floor together finished in the 87th percentile in net points.

To be clear, I don't really think Markkanen is worth more than $11 million. The higher number is where I start to get upset

If you compare Markennan's 4th year last year to Bertans' 4th year in 19-20, they're reasonably comparable players. Bertans is making $16 per for the next 4 years and is considered a negative asset.

You have to pass unless they included it in the Ball S&T and it's effectively a 1 year deal.

I think Markkanen will make this team better next year. Fills a need at backup PF and seems to check a few other boxes we would be interested in (40% from 3 last year)

I don’t want to give up a first for him, though. frick that. Offer him a fair deal and dare Chicago to match, or include him in the Ball trade for another 2nd. That’s as steep as I’d be willing to go.
