Guess they are fine having a disgruntled player that doesn’t want to be there and that they can’t trade for one more year.

I think Bulls fans are going to be really disappointed when they realize this fantastic off-season is to put them in NBA hell of being a perpetual 5-8 seed and very little to rebuild with. They're too guard heavy currently and I've never thought any of their top top guys can carry a team.

If Lauri can get someone to offer him the MLE for 1 year, it's slightly more than his QO and the bulls would probably match but that's probably his best option.

Kind of a bitch move by the Bulls. We could have done the same thing with Ball and forced their hand, but Griff didn't do that. He made it easy for them to sign him.

Lauri is not going to risk signing a multi-year MLE deal with anyone because the risk of the Bulls matching is too high and he doesn't want to be there.

He will either play out his QO or a team will S&T for him, which seems unlikely.

The Bulls made moves with the Bulls best interest as the priority, that's what a team should do.

Griff should have made moves in the best interest of the Pels, not the Bulls and making it easy to sign Zo. That's on Griff.

I just saw that he has to sign at least a two year deal. So yeah, QO seems to be the way to go. I think the bulls are doing the right thing here, but obviously Lauri isn't going to bring the kind of stupid blowback like we got for JJ. Teams should almost always do what's best for them.

Maybe we should have. People are talking about disgruntled agents and teams but look what doing the "right" thing for Jrue got us. We facilitated Lonzo to his preferred destination and that team doesn't even care. The truth is if the Bulls win, no one will remember this. It might bruise an ego or 2 but they will be winners and players, agents, and fans love winners. No they won't most likely get a 1st but I don't blame the Bulls for treating an asset like an asset.

Well when we did what's best for us with JJ, he got all pissy and we burned a bridge with his agent. Seems like we're on the losing end of shite regardless of how we operate

I don't understand. The Bulls are going to end up getting nothing or next to nothing for Lauri. How is that in the Bulls' best interest?

Yeah no one is giving up any sort of asset for Lauri. So this likely ends with him signing a QO (and then losing him for nothing after the season) or them matching a longer term deal and either way you've got a pretty toxic situation on your hands.

I'm sure we weren't the only team they tried to trade him to last year. The Pels wanted a 1st to swap him for Ball. I'm not saying he has no value, but it seems like he's got some major attitude red flags when it comes to how he perceives his place in the league and how most teams view him.

They desperately need a back up 4/5 so if all they can realistically get is a 2nd it's not worth it. They need to field as competitive of a team as possible this year after their spending spree.

and when he comes back, Chicago will still have his rights and will execute a QO when he returns. His only choice is to be willing to play on the QO or pray Chicago will trade him before the deadline.

Yea, you're correct. I misread the post before his. I thought it was in reference to the Bulls asking for a 1st for Lauri, but it was actually in reference to the Bulls matching Lauri, so that was my fault there

They have a good player for a year on a cheap deal, or they have a team trade for him and give value.

If you look at it from their perspective, it makes a lot of sense. They don't have any depth behind Patrick Williams and Vuvecic. They need him for at least another season. Forcing him to pick between the QO and guaranteed money from a low ball deal while demanding a 1st to facilitate a S&T is actually genius. Either you get him locked up on a cheap contract or they've just bought themselves another year with a quality back up. They never intended to keep him but they have nothing to lose playing this hand.

Chicago was never going to get much of anything for him. And knowing that, they've played their cards perfectly.

Just read that. Didn’t realize it. Well they are being pretty shitty towards him, but we don’t know both sides, maybe it’s deserving.

If only Lauri had a loud obnoxious father who slammed the bulls in the media every single day

Well, I don't know about that. They had S&T deals ready with Charlotte and with San Antonio that Markkanen rejected because he wanted more money. Again, I think that Markkanen's agent f'ed up.
