The Pelicans have expressed interest in Lauri Markkanen and hold a sizable trade exception ($17 million) to take the restricted free agent in on a contract he seeks, sources say.

The Bulls, though, are said to want a first-round pick to facilitate.

The Bulls have decided they would greatly enjoy a further raping of Griffin.

Chicago sucks. They weren’t going to get that on the open market from anyone and with the investigation you’d think they’d want to play ball. Would give them two-to-three future seconds.

Obviously not. They can have their own TPE and that’s it.

“On a contract he seeks” is troubling.

Considering all the rumors are Markkanen is waaayyy over valuing himself at this point.

Would hate to walk ourselves into another Adams/Asik situation where we give up assets than pay above market value for another big man that isn’t an ideal fit.

Love the idea as a back up 4/5 on a modest two and one prove it deal, would hate it as a 17+ million long-term deal that costs yet another first rounder but doesn’t actually push us up a tier in the league.

Why they didn't hold out for Markkanen in the Ball trade is puzzling.

That’s fricking laughable. They have no leverage here. They aren’t going to give him the money he’ll command and he’s straight up said he won’t play for CHI. Offer them 2nds and just wait them out. It’s only going to get more toxic for them the longer this drags.

On the bright side, I’ll get to use this for more than 24 hours

Wonder if the NBA will “punish” the Bulls by suggesting that an inclusion of Markannen in the Lonzo trade would fix the tampering issue.

My biggest issue is that I think he wants to start, and I’m not sure he’d be happy coming here off of the bench. We don’t need a malcontent in the locker room. If he’s happy getting solid playing time, but coming off of the bench, I’m okay with something like 3/48.

Naaaaaah, I'll stick with our underwhelming offseason as is, thankyou very much.

Would we even need to use the TPE? Couldn't this just be rolled into the Lonzo deal? You could even pull Temple out of it and just use part of the MLE for his $5M to make more room. I guess it all depends on the number Lauri is seeking and if the salaries would work.

But yeah no way am I including a first. Take a second rounder for him or Hart in a S&T but other than that count me out.

More from Stein:

quote:

Markkanen says he does not want to return to Chicago but has yet to manufacture a better option than one last season as a Bull to gain unrestricted free agency.

The Bulls and Pels also still haven't completed their Lonzo Ball sign-and-trade which is now under NBA investigation.

I rather give up a first for Reddish than for Markannen.

We literally can't give up another first unless it's like in 2024. Besides, we got nothing from them when we gave them a player that wanted out. Now that they have the exact same situation they want a first? They can go frick themselves

If Griff gives up a 1st for a player that literally nobody else on the market is willing to sign to the deal Griff is going to give him, he needs to be fired immediately. But I don't think he'll give in on this.

As someone else pointed out, we should be concerned that Griff is giving Lauri what he wants. A S&T has to be 3 years, how many of the years are team options will be a big deal.

You’re assuming that they wanted Markannen at the time.

Agreed. Keep your second rd pick, include Lauri in the Lonzo trade, and be done with it.
