Feels like he should be looking for his shot a little bit more. He's been insanely efficient this calendar year.

Yep. Needs to be in that 4 to 5 threes a game range.

Definitely needs a few more shots per game.

If, next year, the guy can take another "leap" offensively like he has this year...I am seriously starting to think we might have a legitimate "Robin" on our hands. (Considering both offense & defense, of course)

Maybe he's efficient because he's taking the right shots and just jacking up heat checks in the first quarter?

This

I don't think this means he should take more shots.

I think it means he should keep doing exactly what he's doing.

He is incredible from the corner three spot. He continues to develop his game and is on a terrific, team-friendly contract. We better not trade him.

Very good point. I'm not saying he should start hunting for shots, but if he keeps shooting like he is, the coaches will need to encourage more corner 3s for sure.

This is absolutely it. Most of his attempts are open catch-and-shoot threes from the corners and wings. You can't just create more of those. If he's taking more threes, it's likely he's taking more contested threes.

I don't think we want him taking many (if any) pull-up threes.

Herb should be a Pel for life. Those type of role players certainly don’t grow on trees

Yep...one of the main jobs for any decent Coach is to analyze less-experienced players. IF...they are among your more efficient players, you just gotta figure out what's goin' on...and can they maintain their current efficiency rate relative to our other players IF we put a bit more on their plate?

Last thing you wanna do with "newbies"...is to "stop" adding to their plate too soon...so, just wait until they show obvious signs of diminishing marginal utility (ain't that a fancy way of putting it!!) JMO...Pels are doing an excellent job with Herb...not over-loading and hopefully understanding it may be time to add a bit more to his plate.

And also, jmo...I think the "adding" should include 3-pt shots AND taking the ball to the hoop. The huge leap in his important #s...eFG% AND even more importantly, TS%...should warrant throwing a bit more on his plate. JMO...I COULD be wrong.

It’s really hard for some here to understand that.

Most just say shoot more threes, I don’t care how or why, just do it.
Our TS% is 8th best in the NBA. That’s b/c of Zion and JV down low, as well as Larry, and taking 3s that usually originate from a pass from in the paint.
We need to keep taking smart shots, turn it over less (12th best in turnover rate), and make more free throws (still a terrible 24th best).
Herb has the next highest TS% after Larry/JV/Zion at an elite 62% for a guard.

When he’s hitting that corner three, the offense is completely different.

This shooting leap from Herb is one of the reasons I'm hesitant about putting Dyson in a trade. If Dyson can make a similar leap, a backcourt of Dyson/Herb could be lethal. A big if though.

Herb always had some offensive game. Dyson is offensively challenged.

Herb is an 81% free throw shooter in the nba, and shot 35% from 3 his senior year. It’s not a huge surprise that he can knock down wide open 3s.
He’s also really good at getting to the rim.
He’s a damn good player.

Dyson isn’t a good free throw shooter through two seasons, and a bad 3 point shooter as well.
That being said, I have always liked his form from 3 and he should be a better shooter than he is based on that. He still can’t legally drink in the US so he still has time to improve.

I agree. His shooting stats are bad, but the form (potential) is there to be better. Hopefully he takes that turn next year. Would be really nice to see that turn start to close out this year.

I thought Herbs ceiling was Tayshon Prince but now I am thinking it’s a left handed Scottie Pippen.
