would guess we promote from within and Bryson Graham becomes POBO
that would be hilarious. Dudes been a GM for one year for one of the worst teams in the league.

Willie is an INFINITELY bigger problem than Griffin. A good coach might still do something with this roster. We are dead in the water with Willie Green.

Guess it’s time to bust out the “Fire Willie”s at the game today.

Exactly, for all the faults Griff has we actually do have what should be a competitive roster even with the injuries.

IMO this should have been a 30 win team at minimum even trying to tank. Coaching needs to go before anyone else, and I’m talking before he can even do a postgame press conference.

I’m probably out of the loop - what bad decisions did Joe Dumars make for the Pistons?

I know he gave asinine deals to Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Bad enough that I actually remembered the name Charlie Villanueva.

1. They'll probably hire Dumars
2. He will be arse.
3. They'll fire him in 3 years.
4. Rinse. Repeat.

I hope to God they do not hire Dumars as POBO… I don’t give a frick if he has ties to New Orleans… that’s a dumb arse reason. If they were to hire him in some supporting role in the front office I wouldn’t care. I feel like the game has passed a lot of guys by and Dumars came into the NBA about 40 years ago.

There have to be some younger and smarter minds that can help turn this around.

He picked Darko over D. Wade.

Serious question to those melting over Fletcher comments, when has he ever been right? This is what he does he piggyback off of other people stories. Shamit is not the most reliable source either but he obviously has better sources than Fletcher.

Look man, if you can’t even introduce your coach during pregame introductions, isn’t that a sign? I can’t believe we’re still dealing with this shite.

Got my free Palomas. Pelt them with Fire Willie’s during those dead ball quiet spaces.

I hoping I'll be watching the last game of this era today. We are already falling far behind the West and we're overdue for radical change.

Griffin should be fired based on his handling of Ingram alone and Green should go because of his coaching limitations. If they are serious about winning, they are canning both guys and bringing in a culture guys who won't put up with any bullshite from these players and their decisions will relfect that.

If you don’t clean house you’re risking bringing back the bigger problem. No one, and I mean NO ONE, has done a good job for this team. The injuries have exacerbated things, no doubt. But if you have a chance at Malone or Jenkins and keep nice-guy-Willie you’re not serious about winning.

When Willie has a healthy team, he wins some games. All I was illustrating is that Z and Griffin are much bigger problems than Green. And it’s not all that debatable.

Marc Stein hinting at change coming, don’t have a subscription to see what he says though. Eh screw it I paid the 50 bucks for a year, wasted more than that on this team.

quote:

The weekend was dominated by buzz about the Pelicans and mounting uncertainty about the futures of lead executive David Griffin and head coach Willie Green after a 21-win season that was again derailed by numerous injuries.

This is Griffin's sixth season in charge and there are some in New Orleans, league sources say, who are undeniably bracing for his exit … with Green's status also tenuous. Griffin has found numerous draft gems since selecting Zion Williamson No. 1 overall at the beginning of his tenure in 2019, including promising two-way swingman Trey Murphy III, defensive ace Herb Jones and last summer's selection of center Yves Missi.

He also brought back rich returns in the trades that sent Anthony Davis to the Lakers and Jrue Holiday to the Bucks that helped those teams win championships. Yet the aforementioned injuries have repeatedly overwhelmed rosters that appeared to have playoff potential.

This season's marquee newcomer — former All-Star guard Dejounte Murray — played in just 31 games in his Pelicans debut thanks to a serious wrist injury and then a more devastating Achilles tear. Williamson failed to surpass 30 games played for the fourth time in his six seasons out of Duke. Jones was limited to just 20 games thanks largely to season-ending shoulder surgery. Brandon Ingram sprained his ankle on Dec. 7 and has not played since ... although Griffin did manage to trade the former All-Star forward to Toronto after it became clear that the parties were not going to agree on a contract extension. Griffin's front office sought an extra ballhandler this past offseason to help bolster New Orleans' effectiveness in crunch-time possessions but then rarely got to see him on the floor. For all of Williamson’s breathtaking athleticism, furthermore, he has yet to round into a consistent fourth quarter difference-maker even when healthy.

The pain of Murray's limited availability, meanwhile, was only exacerbated by the rise of Dyson Daniels in Atlanta after the Pelicans included him in the Murray deal. As a Hawk, Daniels has emerged as a Defensive Player of the Year candidate. And his rise has been a source of tension in the organization this season, with Green facing questions internally about his perceived past preferences for playing pesky guard Jose Alvarado rather than Daniels.

Yet it must be noted that there were whispers about Green being in danger during the Pelicans' brutal 5-29 start ... especially after New Orleans had brought in former Hornets head coach James Borrego as Green's associate head coach. But he survived them. Green has been known known to hold significant support from Pelicans owner Gayle Benson. The Pelicans absorbed no shortage of organizational change even before this season.

Trajan Langdon was once regarded as a natural successor to Griffin before leaving for the top job in Detroit to help orchestrate the Pistons' best season in years. Top executive Michael Blackstone joined Langdon in Detroit and Michael Hartman, an analytics staffer who worked with Griffin as part of a championship run in Cleveland, joined Washington's front office in a vice president role after also meeting with the Charlotte Hornets. Still in Griffin's front office, though, is general manager Bryson Graham, who has risen for the team's intern ranks and holds a strong familiarity with Benson.

This is a case of talent overcoming coaching, which means the FO has done a better job than the coaching.

He overpaid for some guys like Ben Gordon whose contracts choked the life out of the Pistons. They also made some bad desperation decisions such as trading for Iverson at the expense of their core guys like Billups.
