If Zion is traded then Scoot, Sharpe, and some down the road 1sts hoping the Pelicans can catch a season with Dame and Zion injured to land a top 3 pick would be fine.

I think Zion's time in NO is over. Too much smoke. ESPN, NBA radio, podcasts, beat writers, etc are all saying these things.

From what I have heard Scoot is the Adult you want while Zion is the talent that will never work out.

The only smoke is that we want Scoot and it likely would take one of BI/Zion to get him. People saying Zion Gone are just wish casting because they are tired of the roller coaster.

All indications are that he's an All Star caliber draft pick. You definitely trade non All Star caliber assets to get that if you can. But I don't see how Dyson + Herb + Stuff gets you the type of Win Now player Portland would want in return. Mikal Bridges, Bam and Jaylen Brown are just as if not more expensive than Ingram. The only distressed property player of this caliber is KAT. Maybe you could turn Pels stuff into KAT and that would get you Scoot.

I don’t know who that player would be either, but I would be counting on Portlands desperation here a little bit. But could Herb or Dyson and a couple of firsts bring back OG? Or maybe Simmons, Herb and a couple firsts, which would seem like a massive overpay for an expiring OG. Siakim, Paul George, Porzingas, I don’t know. But we would have to satisfy what those teams want, and then add to it for Portland. Otherwise those teams may just want Scoot themselves. Definitely not a very likely equation, but that’s the framework of trying.

Another one of my theories is that Portlands “compelling offer” for Bam included a bunch of things from us. Portland doesn’t have a compelling offer on their own IMO.

No matter what I’ll be excited moving forward from all this come Friday morning.

Either we have Zion/BI/CJ and lots of young talent including 14 or

We have Scoot/CJ/BI/Jonas and all our young talent.

I’m good in either scenario and ready to be optimistic about the future.

I’m more frustrated than anything that I’ve become apathetic towards a player in Zion that had the potential and frankly may still find it to be an all time great

It’s obvious no deal gets done without either BI or Zion, so if Griff had really shut this down and walked away the leak parade from the other 2 teams wouldn’t continue. It at least would have stopped with Charlotte, continuing with Portland says Griff never firmly said no.

Yep. If it were a year ago, Griff would have told Windhorst that we aren't trading Zion, and that would be the end of it.

Even if we end up keeping Zion, this off-season represents a complete change in the front office's relationship with Zion. It's the end of the coddling. Catering to Zion and trying to please him ended up as a dismal failure. Tough love and accountability is the new plan.

I don't see any other way to read what is happening, especially since they got rid of Weatherspoon. I also don't think Zion's meeting with Benson was solely to congratulate him on the baby. I think it was also to let him know that a new day was upon him and the org.

in the grand scheme i think its easy to build a contender around scoot than zion. We no longer would have to worry about finding the mythical 3&D center of which there are maybe 3 in the league. Scoot should be a better shooter than zion from the start

You trade Zion you’re assuring you are never a contender. Healthy Zion puts Pels squarely in championship contention, Ingram/Scoot doesn’t do that.

Absolutely not. Love Herb, but that deal would be a homerun

Healthy Zion is never going to exist for a prolonged period of time IMO. Combine that with him seemingly becoming dumber with age.

The guy makes 9 figures and can’t figure it the frick out. It’d be one thing if the dude was just grinding all the time, was in good shape, and had some freak injuries but when you combine it all Im so ready to move on.

-Injuries
-Atypical body for long term NBA success
-Weird emotional shite/immaturity
-Weight issues

It just seems highly unlikely to me that all those things fall in line and he’s a consistently dominant player who is actually on the court. The odds kinda suck.

I don't see how it gets you him either.

Would hate to get rid of trey in any trade but you have to do it.

I doubt there's any deal without Zion or BI but would imagine there's legit no deal if Trey Murphy is also not available.

What do you value more:

Trey, Herb, Dyson or Scoot

Personally, I still prefer the trio.

I'm finding another way to get the deal done, even if it means taking a loss with another deal for vet.

There is no way you’re moving up for a guy as highly regarded as scoot without any of Zion, BI, or Trey included.

Also, if Scoot wanting to be in NOLA is a Portland leak to convince the Pels to trade and Portland is being held hostage by Dame, then Griff has them right where he wants them.

If Portland would take KAT and Minnesota didn't want Scoot because they feel he's too redundant with Ant, I could see a way the Pels could be the 3rd team and walk away with the best player by cobbling together a lot of stuff to make a desperate Minnesota and Portland both take a loss to get close to what they want. That's the only way it happens though, by having 2 desperate teams in the right place at the right time. Even then it seems unlikely.

And to me Trey is both untouchable and not good enough to be the centerpiece of this deal. It's either BI/Zion or Dyson + Herb + Stuff to a desperate 3rd team with a spare All Starish caliber player.
