It’s not about the money, it’s about the rules. He’ll be an RFA. You can’t just hand waive that off.
If he doesn’t sign, someone will give him a big contract as RFA. Then the question is will pels financially be able to match. Its a dangerous game to play.

There’s no option, The pelicans have to trade BI or CJ one because they have to pay Trey and he needs to be playing with Zion instead of subbing for him. Let Murray direct the show, Herb sit in the corner or slash backside to the basket, Zion being Zion and Trey on the perimeter looking for a catch and shoot. BI is not being rational demanding a max deal off a down year where he was hurt and embarrassed in the playoffs. BI tanked BI’s value, not the Pelicans.

Yep. As of right now, Herb and Trey would start the season on the bench because there’s no way in hell CJ and BI are coming off the bench.
That would be such a step backwards.

3 years 120 mill, player option on the 3rd year
Take the best crap offer, and be done with it
We're gonna frick and around and piss off Trey and frick that situation up for the dude we know doesn't fit what we're trying to do.

Exactly, it’s a sunk cost at this point. Griff fricked up holding Ingram so long and now he’s left holding the bag. Don’t make it worse by torpedoing this team on the court with player we know does not fit

Getting Murray without giving up Ingram allows us to move off of Ingram at a loss and not be destroyed by it. For what we should want to do as an organization it is time to move on from BI. Griff HAS to see that. That is why I still think this is posturing and Griff just has to decide when the time is right to eat the shite sandwich.

Bingo. The bigger picture here is what is better for the team? Not that we need to sign BI to a team friendly deal or get the most value for him. Sometimes there is addition by subtraction.

Didn’t you say in my other thread that Ingrams trade value was way higher than Murray and it’s not even close?
Yes
And it’s still true. Just because h hasn’t been traded doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the value in a trade, it means Ingram is worth more than teams are comfortable giving up then having to give him a max extension. The ONLY reason BI hasn’t been traded is the new CBA and the apron penalties.

Pelicans haven’t won anything in history and fans saying let go of good players for 25 cents on the dollar.

Read what you just posted and ask yourself how really “good” are those players if we haven’t won anything.

Problem is that Griff always “wants to win the press conference” so i don’t have much faith in him swallowing his pride and accepting a “loss” on this

The NBA is telling you thats what hes worth.
Maybe for once some of you on this board will actually listen.

I understand CJ's age. I also fully understand he probably won't be on this team in two years. I just cannot fathom paying Ingram over $175 million when we know he does not fit with Zion and we know that together those two will lead us nowhere because of the poor fit
I’m fairly certain that they’ll still try to move BI even if they sign him to new deal. Pretty sure that’s why they are so adamant about not overpaying him, they can’t turn him into a negative asset, because it’ll be too hard to move him down the line.

And often times it results in subtraction by subtraction.

I’m still trading him even if he signs an extension, he may actually be worth more if he signs something like 3/120. It just buys you some time.

BI is cool and all, but for our current roster, getting rid of him would be addition by subtraction anyway, plus we’d get some level of picks/role players/flyers in return

This is extremely stupid. BI is still one of the 3 best players on this roster. Losing one of your best players is not addition by subtraction.

If he is a terrible fit then it could absolutely be addition by subtraction.
We've done jack shite with ingram in 5 years. Time to move on

But this so called "fit" is a viewpoint of last year's BI without DJ.
The gravity of the situation/ 3pt awareness + DJ's impact could very well make BI a high valued asset.
I'm not saying we should trust it and I 100% think he will be traded, but I disagree with the negative value argument.
We hoped a team would offer the value we wanted and pay BI so we don't have to deal with it. Once he sighs his extension/ is locked in then he's gone.
